I woke up about half an hour ago...the TV was on face the nation and there was G.W. Bush asking people to send cash for Haiti! I'm sorry maybe it is just me but did this piss anyone else off??? I was appalled that they chose him to ask for help for haiti after what he did to our own people during hurricane katrina....they couldn't find ANY other former president with some time on his hands? That basta&d left our people in katrina to suffer and trapped them there with no aid for days on end and now they think he is the best person to ask us to help in haiti??? Anyone else feel this way or is it just me??

The vast majority of the problems after Katrina can be directly atributed to the inactions and/or idiotic actions of Mayor Nagen and The governor of Louisiana at the time. To blame Bush for that is a bit simplitstic. Did FEMA screw it up?of course they did. There were many elements of FEMA that failed or acted pretty badly. But to try and pin the blame on a president is stretching it a bit. I'm no fan of Bush, believe me. But the problems after Katrina are far more atributed to local and state actions and inactions before, durring and after.

Well unfortunately I have to disagree with you on that...I dont blame ONLY Bush...I know there are other officials who screwed up as well....but Bush turned his back on all those people and he could have helped them and he was responsible for sending aid to them and planes to get them out which yes he EVENTUALLY did but he sure didnt hurry....I'm not saying Bush is soley responsible for the bad handling of katrina though I am saying Bush was a really bad choice to use to ask for aid for haiti after he turned his back on our own katrina victims....believe me I would have also been appalled if Nagen or Brown(the guy that was head of fema then) would have been on there....but ultimately the president is the top dawg and when something happens in the country the president does get blamed....just like Obama is now being blamed for everything that happens here! It goes with the job...

Well thats true....I didnt really intend for this to be a discussion about semantics ....i was just venting... Yes Haiti is devastated right now...and thats why it seems they would choose someone people had a little more respect for to ask for aid.... I was just saying for my own opinion....I think when people see Bush on there asking for aid for haiti it will turn them off a bit as he never came to the aid of his own country and in more instances than just katrina....for ME personally i think I would have been more responsive to someone with a bit more of a humanitarian past than i was to seeing Bush ask for aid....but like i said in the original post maybe that is just me.

It's the cause that should matter and not the person representing it. They might even use Osama bin Laden to publicize to support a cause. But it all comes down to how you feel. Are you so crude that you do not help the people in Haiti because they chose a guy who failed to help your people in need?? I know the emotion and the feeling of brotherhood, but as humans, we are supposed to help each other no mater the country of origin or the person representing the cause. bourne

I never said i did not care about the people of haiti or that i intend to refuse to help because bush asked....I simply said that it appalled me to see him asking for help for haiti when he never helped his own country out of any crisis!!! I just think they could have chosen a more humanitarian person to do the asking that is all...do not add words to my comment that i did not say!!

I as do MOST people see BOTH the Cause itself AND the person representing it....the world is not black and white there are many many shades of gray!!! The cause itself is a worthy cause and I never said any different...the discussion is not about the cause itself, the discussion is about one particular representative of the cause ...that being G.W. Bush and I still personally think it is a bad choice and he is a hypocrite!!! And yes most of the time the person representing a cause IS what people pay attention to....why do you suppose they choose the people they do to represent various causes??? Because they feel that particular person will be well recieved... I had no problem when Wycleff Jean asked for support for haiti....makes perfect sense doesnt it?? He is a huge celebrity AND he is from there so it only makes sense he would ask for help.....and people respond expremely well to him....Bush..not so much....so yeah it does matter WHO you choose to represent an issue!

My comment was a question. I was not imposing on anything. I did not tell you off for not helping. All that was said was do you see the person who's representing the cause.. or the cause itself. bourne

I don't have a problem with President Bush helping. He was not the only one at fault for Katrina. He got the blame, but the local government was also to blame. He has his faults but who does not. He will do a good job.

Excuse me but it is not easy to get relief there quickly when a Disaster happens like an EARTHQUAKE or HURRICANE it's pretty serious, Look at the News and you will see that it's not an easy place to get aid to in a crisis. Maybe things could have been done better but I doubt whether it would be much different had someone else been in charge.

What part of it does it not pertain to???? Please explain as I think it does exactly and you are typical in just blaming Bush for everything.

Who cares what celebrity in on asking for donations? I know we should all help the victims whenever we can but I still can't help to think about all the help Americans need to. Why does it take a national disaster for us to think about things like that? What about the millions of homeless people right here in America? Why can't we take care of our own as well as we help others? I don't care if Bush is asking for help, everyone deserves the right to try to redeem himself. I think there is a much larger elephant in the room.

I was discussed to see him on the TV. That was not a good idea. A lot of people I am sure were turned of just by seeing him.
