It's definitely art! I would tell her to get whatever she wanted and liked, and I would be right by her through the whole thing!

If she wants it why not? it's her body after all. I have nothing against those who want tattoo since a lot do it for personal and sentimental reasons. But it should be done only after thorough thinking. Tattoos will become a part of your body. And just like getting married you have to take into consideration when you take a shower if you can appreciate that thing seeing it every day for the rest of your life. I've seen reality shows of people who tattoos and those tattoos look great, it's just a work of art.

my best friend is getting her first tattoo later this year. she's using the artist we recommended, and I've helped her get her design so she's happy with it, after all, it's important to get the design just right, as it's forever. and I'll make sure she knows exactly what she's doing with the aftercare, and doesn't take any painkillers that thin the blood or drink before the tattoo, as this can make it bleed more. basically my advice is always to find the right artist, make sure your design is exactly as you want it and the location is one you are happy with, and that you look after it right both before and after the process. I love tattoos, so if any friend of mine tells me they're getting their first one, I'm excited for them.

I've already been through this a few times. I just kinda shrug and say, "Well, it is your skin and if you think you'll like having ink stuck to you for the rest of your life, then I guess I can live with that." But I do tell them to make sure that they really want to mark up their bodies that way. Tattoos are expensive and even more expensive to remove. Plus there are all sorts of problems that can come with getting one. I don't think tattoos are art, but I won't disrespect those who think it is.

Personally I would tell them that it took them long enough and then I would advise them to make sure they are going to get something that means something to them as 2 of mine I absolubtly HATE!!
