I love the movie The Shining, and think that the book is even better. Has anyone else compared the movie and the book?

Yes i have and although i love the film and it is by far one of jack nicholases best performances the book is sooooo much better lol but i guess you find that with movies as they have a time scale to adhear to so they just take all the best bits or as many of them as they can and try to make the story line to go with them but in a book you have as much freedom as you like. If i watch a good film then i always try to find out if there is a book for it then i will read the book also :)

This film is Jacks best performance ever. The direction along with Jack made that movie. One of my favorites.

I agree with you. Stephen King could really write in those days; I think "The Shining" is my favorite of his books. Yet I loved the movie too and thought Jack Nicholson's performance was brilliant. Whenever my Dad was going out to chop wood, he'd imitate that door chopping scene. I still get freaked out remembering it.

yes, in fact i took a course in university analysing the differences between books and their film adaptations......however it's a looooong time ago and wouldn't remember much of the analysis now ;) but definitely the book is quite different, or rather, just has a lot more in it than the movie does. i love both versions, but they each have their place. (though steven spielberg apparently hated what kubrick did to his book!)
