Which brand name is more reliable?

United States

Yesterday, both of my friends were arguing which brand name of computer is most trustworthy and reliable to purchase. One argued that Sony Vaio is the best brand name, and it is reliable. While another one is more favorable on Dell and Toshiba. For me, I didn't take side on either one of them. I rather say it doesn't matter which brand name. Because most computer works the same way, and I really don't see the difference even though the high - end brand name computer. Because the components are from many different manufacturers. So, what do you think of it?

all the companies use virtually the same components so personally if you buy a sony you are paying for its name. Its like buying a car, a old mini metro can be just as reliable as a bmw even though the parts are effectively the same you are just paying for the name.

Hey, I definitely agree what you said here. They used all the same component, probably the cheap component to reduce the cost of the PC. so, basically, they are the same, and I don't see much difference. It is about the brand name difference.

I would say Sony Vaio. My sister has one and it seems to work really well. My main ocmplaint with Dell, while it IS a reliable company, you pretty much have to order everything through a Dell catalog - ink, replacement parts, and so on, which gets to be a drag.

I had a Sony vaio desktop before. Now, due to its motherboard malfunction, I couldn't use it anymore. I could re - built a computer myself with all the old components, but I would say, it is cheaper to buy one myself nowadays, than to re - build one myself.

I have had a Compaq, Gateway, and now I have a Dell. I like it better than the Comaq or Gateway. This one has 4 gigs of ram and a 500 gig hard dirvie, os it has lots of room, and it does run faster than Vista or Xp, as it has Windows 7 in it. I think that Windows 7 is a great operating system, and I highloy recommend it, and I am certainly glad that I bought it. I don't really know which computer is the best one, but from my perspective so far, it is my Dell. Take care, and happy mylotting.

Hello kingparker me too often get confused with the avail brands in computers but later get it resolved through its configurations and its price.Well mostly think the top brands are sony, Dell, HP, etc, but it depends upon its configurations. If have to choose between this brands will opt out for either sony for commercial use, and dell and hp for business uses.Yeah the components are much diff according to their brands but its the performance that it gives.Anyways keep it up with yoru computer info, Happy mylotting.

I like VIAO. I'm not sure if it's sony though. But now I use mac. It's the best computer ever. No viruses or anything. :) Might be expensive, but it's worth it. Especially the programs and stuff. It's really good.

Sony Vaio is just a line of very overpriced laptops (a vaio which cost PHP 80,000 will only have the same specifications with an Acer which cost PHP 30,000) don't make that financial mistake. Brand names aren't really that important when buying laptops, the important stuff are what's inside that's why you should always look at the specs and not on the brand.

kingparker, I do not think there are any issues of reliability as far as the major brands are concerned especially when it is being measured by the sets' trouble free performances. Generally speaking, Sony Vaio along with other brands that has the same specs to that of a Vaio will tell you that there will be some that can say that their brands may just be as reliable to Sony. Yet, with the price of a Sony Vaio, one can just get a HP or Lenovo or Toshiba or Asus with a much more aggressive specs and apps that could just beat the Sony Vaio hollow anytime. To me, brand reliability is something much more than the functionality of the set. It goes beyond the set we have in our hands, I will be looking at value for money, functionalities with the current config, and most of all service and support. I do not buy the trouble free culture because somewhere or someday it will just breakdown. So, to me brand reliability can never be truly attested until we can experience them first hand by ourselves. Have a nice day.

Well, the answers to your query would be subjective. As far as I am concerned,Sony is for style and Dell is for performance.Toshiba is nowhere in the competition. This obviously doesn't mean that Sony laptops don't perform or Dell laptops look duds but what I mean to say is that they are the best in the respective categories.I myself use Hp and every time I switch it on,I start wondering why couldn't I have gone for Dell. But then,I'd rate Hp over Toshiba.

You're right, the components of laptop are from many manufacturers, and almost all of us don't know them, such as samsung as RAM, and Hitachi as harddisk. But if we're talking about brands, we're not talking about a mere components and reliability. If you open the lid and touches the keyboard of Sony Vaio, Toshiba Satellite, and Acer Aspire, you will know the difference. So if someone doesn't care about all of this, that's a very no problem. Because, Sony, Toshiba and Acer are all big companies and they know for sure their customer. And there are people who cares very much about it. I myself take it as compliment, but I always prefer goods which are value for money. Because I think there has to be goods which are good enough, but doesn't cost too much.
