I want to buy a laptop. My budget is very tight and I can't afford an expensive laptop. So after some research about the prices I zeroed my search to compaq presario range which I found good. But as I don't have much knowledge about the computers. Can anyone suggest what all things I should keep in mind while buying a new laptop?

I had a compaq presario for three years never had a single problem with it.To buy a new laptop check for ram size check security features visual graphics and memory depending on your usage for it.Check ram size because some updates you may recieve may not be supported due to the ram thus causing you to go out and pay extra for more ram.Check security features because you want to know your information is protected and make sure to avoid norton security look for mecafee.Norton is a virus you can't get rid of unless you wipe your laptop.Visual graphics is more on if you do alot of presentations or like watching movies playing games etc you want to make sure your graphics card is up to date for those things.Memory is always good to know so you can know your limits as far as storing things on your laptop. Most the time a brand is a brand doesnt really matter just prices. All laptops work performance depends on how its maintained and what you have on it.

I have had compaq, gateway and now a dell, and I like the dell better, but that is just my opinion. You might find the compq works better for you, and it really all depends on what you want on it too, I would think. Compq doesn't come with recovery discs, as you have to make those yourself. It isn't a big hassle, but it would be better if they came with them. The Gatewya nor Dell, come with them either. I have already made recovery discs for my dell. I paid $598 for my dell, $550 for the gatewya, and aroudn that much for the compaq I had. Mu p;dest gramdspn got the compaq when I bought the gateway, and now my other grandson will get the gateway, as he doesn't have a computer right now as he has to use his dad's. Anyway, I would suggest just checking out the compaq before you buy it and then you can decide if it is really the brand you want. Take care, and happy mylotting.
