I teach a combination of Shaolin and Praying Mantis Kung Fu in St. Helens Oregon. I'm trying to find out what people look for in a Kung Fu school, in particular what people look for when looking to sign up their kids.

Im from Philippines! I practice traditional kung fu! The 5 animals form of shaolin.. For me, I look for the grandfather of all martial arts which is kung fu. Thats why I love practicing kung fu! Then kung fu is very hard martial art to learn, its too manny of variation, routines and principle of each style! I realy love kung fu..

I'm from Indonesia, first that their parents do is to make sure that Kungfu in that school is safe.. in a way that it may not injured their children. second they see the reputation of the trainer something like... how many medals that he won. third is how much they have to pay. yeah... i think most parents would do that.

If I were looking to go to school for any martial art, I would want to go to a school that tried to stay as close to the traditional art as possible. I would want the school to also teach any mental and/or spiritual practices that go along with the martial art, not just the physical forms. I think that in America, the martial arts are misconstrued to be all about physical power and being able to kick butt. They don't tend to teach the balance that most martial arts traditionally teach.
