You pray because you have to.
You are told to.
You must.
There is no stopping it.
You must pray not for HIM but for yourself, You only pray to HIM.

You don't have to and if you don't know Allah then praying to him is worthless

Important question! The word "Allah" is the perfect description and word for the one and only God (our creator) for Jews, Christians, and Muslims. It's not only for Muslims; "Allah" is the same word used by Christian Arabs and Jewish Arabs in their Bible. (for example, on page 1 of Genesis, we find the word "Allah" used seventeen times)
Allah is an arabic word representing the one God. Allah comes from the word "elah", a god or something worshipped.
Allah has no gender, not male or female. (even though we use the word 'He' as our languages defaults to 'He')
Allah is always singular, never plural (you cannot have two Allah's, the word Allah itself stands for only one!)
Allah means "the only one to be worshipped"
And a Muslim is someone who submits his/her will to the will of Allah (the one and only God), doing what Allah wants us to do!
Now if we don't know Allah well, or if we have the wrong ideas about Allah, we obviously won't want to pray to Him! After sending messages through all of his prophets (some are John, Jacob, Moses, and Jesus), he sent his last and final revelation through his last and final messenger, Prophet Muhammad (may God's peach be upon him), the Qur'an. By reading the Qur'an, we can understand who Allah is, as the Qur'an is the only preserved religious scripture, in the original language, for 1,400 years, and confirmed by the scholars of Islam to be 100.00% the word of God. (and we have proof for it) We Muslims are not reading the Qur'an so we are not benefiting ourselves, and we are not spreading the word to others. When you know who Allah is, you will want to worship Him. He does not need our worship but he knows what's good for us. We can give him nothing, but we can only obey him. So we pray to him because he wants us to, and knows that it is good for us. But we have to know what we're doing when we pray! So knowing Allah by reading the Qur'an and learning what the last prophet, Prophet Muhammad, is most important.
