If it is just for you, honestly, look at some of the lean cuisine meals. They are really good to use.
But, if you actually want to attempt to cook, try using wheat pasta if you can make pasta instead of the traditional.
If you enjoy meat. I highly suggest going for lean cuts of chicken, venison (deer), ground turkey, turkey. Those are always good to use.
If you go to some of the cooking websites and you put in low calorie, you will find quite a few great recipes.
I have thousands of great recipes and not sure where to start for you. Let me know what you are interested in attempting to make and I can give you a few ideas.
Good Luck on your healthy eating kick! I'm on that path myself right now. My goal is to loose 35 pounds.

I eat a lot of lean cuisine, and healthy choice, and smart one... thats like 60% of what i eat now! lol which is good but i hear that salt is bad for you and they have a lot of salt in them. Plus they never really keep me full!
I try to always use the leanest type of mean on matter what i'm eating/making. I eat a lot of deli meat (on a salad of sandwich)
I will look up recipes for low cal stuff... the only thing is ive never cooked so i dont even know what i really like or what to look for. like i dont even know where to start!
I want to lose like 25-35 so we have something in common! I have already lost 150 so far! Losing weight is really hard but dont give up you'll get there:) Good luck

For recipes, check out sparkrecipes.com and allrecipes.com. I really like Spark Recipes because I was able to find easy recipes to cook and a more healthier way to cook my favorite foods without the extra calories.
