*Please note - before reading this, make sure that you understand that I know there are people that are temporarily receiving benefits due to the economy or just hard times in general - but please also understand that the welfare system was set up as temporary relief. It was not put in place to be a way of life."Should everyone receiving welfare be drug tested in order to maintain or receive government money? Whether its in the form of food stamps, cash assistance, heating assistance? Money towards a car? Whatever it may be.
Don't most of us have to pass a drug test before we can be hired on to start receiving a pay check???
Right now I think the welfare riders have it GREAT! They make a few phone calls, show their electric bill and TA DA!!! $300/month in food, $200/month in cash and lets not forget the fact that I have anxiety issues... so now I'm going to request that $701.40/month check from SSI because I dont' think I can handle the pressures of this world.
Now... I go to work 40 hours a week and after taxes are taken out - I don't clear as much money as the general person in the above paragraph! But yet... the reason I have so many taxes taken out is so that they can have a higher standard of living. DAMIT! In order for me to have a higher standard of living... I have to work. I have to hunt for better paying jobs or lower costing insurance. I have responsibilities that I need to own up to before I see any kind of monies flowing thru my wallet.
So you tell me - how do you feel about drug testing for welfare?

I am all for it. I know how it feels to work your butt off every day only to have a big chunk of your money taken out for taxes..it sucks! I am all for helping people that need assistance get back on their feet, but yeah, I would like to know that my money is going to people that honestly need it, not people that are being lazy and don't feel like working cause they'd rather sit around the house high all day.
And yes, I realize not everyone that is on welfare does that...but there are plenty of people that do and that isn't right.
