I am so sick of commercials! I understand the stations have to have money to stay on teh air, but there are so mnay commercials now days! I mute the tv as soon as they go to a commercial. If I find a commercial to be particularly annoying I refuse to buy their product! I think at this point I would pay extra for tv with absolutely no commercials!! Would you?

I already pay for TV. My cable bill increases on a regular basis. They charge the basic customers more to help cover some of the costs for high-rent stuff, like HD and Video-on-Demand. Maybe the cable company could make an arrangement that would require me to set my TV on a channel that has nothing but commercials for a set period of time every day and then reduce my bill. They are not going to do that.

I know we pay for cable, but it has so many commercials. I'd pay extra for commercial free tv! I would go for the tv having to be on a commercial channel twice a day at certain times or something like that! Anything to just get to sit and watch a show!!!

Mum has Sky (box plus a small satellite dish) like we do but her digibox is much more advanced than ours. It's called a Sky+ (plus) digibox and is closely related to the TiVo in the US so you may be familiar with the latter... Anyway, what Mum does is record any programmes she likes on commercial television onto its hard drive using the on-screen menu and just one press of a button on the remote control. She then watches any of the four BBC channels that have no adverts (bliss) and watches the recorded progs after...but the best thing is she can zap the adverts!! It's amazing! Up to 30 times the original speed if she wants to but generally goes for 12! She can also pause live tv. It has absolutely transformed the way she watches television as she isn't that technical and loathed the VCR she had before. In my opinion everyone in the country should have one free of charge, they really are that good!

That sounds great! Maybe I need to get one of those so I can skip all the comercials! They are so disruptive and annoying! the only problem will be with football as I really prefer to watch it live!

What happens with the pause live tv feature is that you pause by pressing the "pause" button on the remote, it stops the live action, you then go to the loo, come back, press "play" on the remote and - get this - it carries on from where you left off! In other words you don't miss a thing! How clever is that?!

I don't know if I would pay for no commercials, but I agree with you that they are annoying. I also mute commercials or flip to another station. A lot of times I spend the "commercial time" doing housework and come back to the tv when the show comes back on.

Maybe they are beneficial after all! I mean, you don't have to schedule your cleaning time now!! Plus you are getting some useful exercise in between!!

lol...true. I like to watch marathons a lot and the commercials on the same channels always repeat themselves, so I'm not missing much.

Commercials do serve a purpose for me. They allow me to do other things and not miss a minute of the show I watch it. Go to the bathroom, get a snack, read my e-mail, just anything. The few times I do have the misfortune of watching commercials, they are rather repetitive and yes, there are way too many of them. I mean, a movie just over ninety minutes running time taking about three and a half hours to show, with some scene cut out. That's no exaggeration, I have seen this happen.

You are correct. I do the bathroom or kitchen run when commercials are on too! That way I don't have to miss any of the show! But I can also pause the dvd when I want to also!

Hi. Commercials are the lifeblood of any TV stations/programs. I think the quality of many TV programs have improved significantly because of their earnings from various commercials. But I agree with you. It would be good to have a commercial-free TV programs. If it does happen, the consumers will have to pay a very high price for the privilege. This is because they will have to cover for the lost earnings from potential commercials.

I understand that the tv stations make money with commercials,it's just that there are so many. SOme of the local stations here have some really dumb ones too! IT's very annoying, which still serves their purpose as I will remember the commercial because it's so dumb!

yes, I agree. There are really a lot of useless (sometimes irritating) commercials.

I already do, at least sort of. The channels that are owned by the state don't have any commercials, and we have to pay a fee twice a year and I think some of that money goes to the channels and some goes to keeping the net etc in shape. Most of the series go on channels with commercials though, but judging by all the stupid breaks in for example So You Think You Can Dance? you get a lot more commercials over there than we have here (Norway)

It does seem like we get a lot of commercials. It seems lately that it's worse than it used to be too! They are beginning to annoy me greatly. It may simply be my age though!

Yep, we get that too! I try to remember to mute the tv as soon as I know a commercial is coming up! Another vote for watching dvds!

I can't stand commercials either, and typically I also mute commercials. A lot of times I tune out as soon as commercials come on, or I use that time to go to the bathroom, get a drink, etc. So actually, commercials do serve a purpose at times. There are some commercials that sicken me outright, and others that are just annoying. As for paying more, I can't say I would, just because I don't pay for our satellite, my parents do. I probably wouldn't even if I paid, mostly because satellite is quite expensive to begin with. I just take the opportunity to do something else while they are on, I would never make it through back to back to back hour long drama's on Thursday nights if it wasn't for commercial. But for the most part, I can't stand watching commercials. The nice thing about DVR is that you can fast forward through commercials, although, to do that you have to have recorded the show in order to do that.

They are so annoying! And then to top it off the volume goes up ten strokes when a commercial comes on. I turn the tv down and then have to turn it back up for the show!I love my mute button!!!!

hi macdingolinger, that is correct the time of show and time of commercials may be equal or may be more in tv shows, that is their earnings,so they concentrate of the commercials, but mostly people are bore with commercials, the commercials also coming repeatedly once in 15 minutes,so it is better to change the channel and see other pro grammes, have a nice day

Yep, usually mute the tv during commercials if it's a show I am really wanting to see. But when I'm not that into the show, then I start the channel flipping. But did you know you can go all the way around the channels sometimes and only see commercials? That's crazy!

Well I think I'm paying more then I want to already just to watch TV. However, I'm like you I mute the commericals mainly because they are so loud. Why do they need to be louder then the show itself. Its ridiulous and annoying. Like I said though I pay enough for TV that I wouldn't be willing to pay more. Now if I was wealthy that would be a different story.

Good day to you! I am actually new here and your post perked my interest. I know what you mean when you said commercials are sickening. However, I wanted to share an experience that I had with my family when we watch tv. Every time the commercials appear, we start having a game of "guess-the-commercial" and the first one who was the fastest to guess the commercial gets a price. It was a lot of fun actually. =)
