Our forefathers know the value of education.
Obama to seek $1.35 billion more for education
By DARLENE SUPERVILLE
Associated Press Writer
WASHINGTON (AP) - President Barack Obama will ask Congress on Tuesday for $1.35 billion to extend an education grant program for states, senior administration officials said.
Obama was outlining the budget proposal at a Fairfax County, Va., elementary school, after joining Education Secretary Arne Duncan in a discussion with sixth-grade students.
The $787 billion economic stimulus program Obama signed into law soon after taking office included $4.3 billion in competitive grants for states, nicknamed the "Race to the Top" fund. States must amend education laws and policies to compete for a share of the money.
The Education Department is expected to announce its first of two rounds of awards in April. More than 30 states were expected to apply by Tuesday's deadline.
I think Mr. Obama is on the right track.

thats good news! he is preparing the americans to be much more globaly competitive, tho others think that americans dont need it, because of the strong nation they have , inspite of the economic crisis they are facing. but they are slowly recovering from it. president obama is investing on the people. people are the ones that make a nation strong. not the land or not just the government...
i cant wait for another next years to come, and see what this investment of Obama has brought..

Every one has the right for education. I think we need this and is one of the things every one should have. Obama made a good move here. I think all countries of the world should give education enough importance and must to their very best give free education to its citizen as much as possible.

(It's "President Obama", not Mr...) Thanks for sharing the article. It's a great idea and all, but I would love to know where all of this money is coming from. The one and only place could be China. Oh we already have $14 TRILLION in debt to them, so a few more billion won't hurt. I think this is a sugar coat for what's already going on. Students with the right combination of inspiration and brains will get to the top regardless of the push they receive from the government. President Obama seems to be looking to get on our good side while he crams an ignorant health care bill behind our backs. Our kids are going to pay those debts. Not us.

hi Watarikenji hi again. oh yes I think Obama sees the needs
and intends to fulfill them. I am hoping the garden Grove
school district that intends to cut out our retirement center programs in February reconsiders if they get extra money. we do need these programs here for us retired people. we are all ages from fifty to 96 and there were music programs and cooking programs and also mental fitness class, which I loved myself. now they are to be axed unless they get more funds. sad, we older people rate last in the wo rld. really stupid too.

Education appears to be getting on the right track. Hopefully this will pay off completely. We need a generation of educated people to help us pull out of the current trouble. If we underestimate the value of education, then we'll just go along and maybe spiral further down for the worst. So I think education is improving on the perfect track. Whether it will pay out or not, only time will tell.

At least something is being done about the non-existant system. Though I disagree that schools should have to fight or compeate for it. But we don't live in an ideal world, and compition for basic rights and money needed for edicuation I feel students are getting jipped because of the fact there is lack of funding and teachers don't want to work. for little pay, they don't do a very good job of it. They prepare students for standardized tests, but is that really teaching them anything? What do they gain from this? Grades fall by the wayside and I don't think that things will improve if this fight for founding continues.
