Would you rather watch movies rather than news?

I used to love watching the news but today I have noticed that there are too much brutal scenes and a lot of unpleasant news that sometimes make me sick. So I prefer watching the movies on television than watch the news about death, war, calamities, and other brutalities that are going on around the world.
I would rather hear the news from my sister or friend rather than watch it myself. I don't want to see the blood and all the pictures of cruelty on television.

I have about given up on watching the news. Most of my television watching is for entertainment purposes now. There is just too much depressing stuff on the news. Maybe I catch a brief moment or two on the news on occasion but for the most part I am now steering clear of it. Just too depressing for my tastes right now.

Hi,there.I think I love watching the news all the time.Actually, when I watch a movie I just can't stop to browse the mews.So sometimes after the movie ,I don't know what is about on earth.I like to watch the entertainments and sports news.It makes me feel relax .But sometimes I also like reading some current affairs.

I like both although I would have to say that I enjoy movies much more especially during the evening hours. Yes, I agree, there's so much bad things being reported in the news and I suppose by watching too much of this stuff well, this can lead to depression. When I wake up in the mornings I tune into Sky News and it's more like background noise whilst I am doing other things. Right now it's particularly poinient considering the devastating earthquake that took place in Haiti and the pictures truly are horrific. This evening I watched a couple of my favourite movies and this really helped me to forget my troubles and relax for a short while! Andrew

I beleive it is important that we watch the news as it is our only way to keep an eye on the government which is essential for democracy as it stops them for abusing there power it also helps eradicate the possibility of the government ignoring suffering.A good example is the earthquake in haiti if their was no one watching the news and seeing all the suffering would the governments of the world be as quick to send aid.

Yes, sometimes it's definitely hard to watch the news with all of the horrible things going on in the world today. It seems like news channels always focus on the bad rather than include a little of the "good things" going on, too. So, I agree! It can be depressing at times. I watch the news only occasionally. Of course watching movies is going to be much more fun for us - it usually involves much less thinking, and the best part is that what happens in a movie - is (usually) totally fictional and doesn't affect our everyday lives like the news does.

There sure is a lot of graphic stuff shown on the News shows now. I sometimes cringe when I watch them. I think the people that work there try to get the viewers attention with that kind of stuff. But you still need to be kept up to date on the News. I get most of my news online now anyway. I can understand if people would rather watch a movie or tv show instead.

I read news on newspapers and online but do not watch news because there are more details on printed media, which I can have a better understanding of the situation. I agree sometimes the images on TV are disturbing and depressing, such that when after watching the news you become moody and lose interest to do something else. Like you I would rather watch some nice movies from rented DVDs and spend more time on reading newspapers or news downloaded to my mobile phone or computer.

I like watching a few minutes of the news in the morning and before bed, to get updated on what is going on locally and around the world. I really like watching movies. I do not think that I would rather watch one or the other. News provides present information, and movies are entertaining. Both work towards my interests. So, I do not prefer one over the other.

I would much prefer to watch movies over news. There is so much turmoil and destruction in the world. It is good to just sit back and take in a lighter side. Movies take you to a different place, even if it is just for a little while. With the news the realities of life will remain no matter what you do.

In my opinion the news and movies are two very different things and i watch both for different reasons. I watch the news to see what is happening in other places of the world but like you say, most of the time they are not very pleasant things and can be quite graphic.

I like watching them both. Early in the morning I usually have my coffee in front of the television. I do this often to catch fresh news both local and international. I like watching movies in my long free time, during weekends when I am so lazy to go out.
