Most people that love food have heard one time or another of French Escargots, but have you ever heard of Portuguese snails?! The way we cook it, they are tasty...sorry to disgust you if you don't even want to try them, but if you ever have the chance, just try one! And here's the receipe if you manage to find some on your backyard or at the market: 1k snails(caracóis) 4 cloves of garlic, crushed 1/2 lemon peel 1 stalk fresh rosemary 2 stalks dried oregano 1 hot chili pepper salt 1- let your snails soak for at least 30 min, but don't forget to cover them, because they will try to escape 2- wash them throughly, until the water drains clear 3- put them in a pot and add water just covering snails. add the rest of the ingredients except the salt. 4- put in a low heat and let boil. It will take some time, but this way you'll get all your snails with their heads out. 5- add salt when they lookes partially cooked. let it simme for another 10 minutes. napkins and toothpicks are essential to a good experience;) ENJOY

In my culture we also have this kind of cuisine, but we use river's snail, the black colour shell type. taste good, just break the rear end of the shell, boil them and add some salt, vegetables and it's ready for serving.
