is the world doing enough to help Haiti?

Do you believe that the world is doing enough to help the devastating event in Haiti? I personally thing we could do much more to help out there. In 1985 there was an earthquake in Mexico City of 8.5 on righter scale, there was not much help back in those times. Now I think that in Haiti is a little different, maybe because of the new technology. Another thing, it keeps shaking in Haiti just like any other massive earthquake, first they have a strong one and then little ones... Let me just say that I feel terrible with what has happen in Haiti, and I believe we can do so much more for these people, maybe not with money but by donating food, clothing or whatever can be helpful for them. What do you guys think? Is the World united enough to help these sort of catastrophic events?

i am literally broke. i've got no money at all. except some pocket change that i will gladly donate to my company, who does mission work in Haiti. what i do have is two big trash bags full of baby clothes that i thought might be able to be put to good use for a family in Haiti.

The clothing thing is very kind of you, and I am sure it will help a whole lot. Thank you for being sensitive.

That is so kind of you to want to donate something to Haiti, that would be great if more people felt that way.Which I think it's wrong for people in the US to complain about them.I'm in the US and I'm glad they're getting help.So many people act so selfish about them. They lost everything, they have nothing left and all people do here is complain about them.

Alright, well now don't get me wrong. I fully support the US supporting Haiti as it is right now. But I also am curious... Why can't the US help itself the same way? We obviously have problems of our own as well. And I'm not saying we should put ourselves before anyone else by any means. I believe that Haiti needs a lot more support than it's getting for sure. I'm just curious, if we can help others in such a fashion... Why is it that we cannot help our own citizens in the same way?

I understand what you mean, but since is a natural disaster and is the worlds poorest country, well you see thats how things go. I do understand where you are coming from though. What about the war in Irak? Well... I guess they haven't got their previous "oil" just yet. Medical care? Human rights.... There are loads of issues the United States needs to care for before any other country, yes I agree, but what would the other countries say about the worlds most powerful country? Sure, why don't they help?

Let me start off by saying I am truly sorry for what has happened to them I truly am. But what more can we do. We sent ships and planes over there with food, water, medical attention, equipment for clean up, search dogs and rescuers. What more can we do? To be totally honest I am sick and tired of hearing *we need help* *we need more money* just be thankful with what you got there in the first place. It honestly sounds like they want the shirt off our backs. And how much money is too much here? With all the countries and the nations how many millions have they sent over. Never mind that they are putting their own country in the red line. I am truly outraged at how they are hurting their own country and own nation to give so much in reality what more can we give them. What more do they want? And when it really comes down to it would they help us?

How am I being selfish? My father is losing his job because of this. He works with the army (heavy duty mechanic) someone who fixes firetrucks for the city, bull dozers, loaders that clean the city streets, clean our runways and make sure that everything is up to par. But yet they keep a guy that has been there for 6 months, no licence and doesn't know nothing. They don't have money to pay these guys so they let them all go but the dumb one cause he's cheap to keep. And because my dad is the age he is he can't just go out and find another job. They look at peoples age when hiring and that. They have sent countless support, military, ground troops, equipment for clean up, airplanes and ships full of water, food and medical equipment. But now you have to think these machinerary that are over there they come back and my dad is the one who fixes them. They are taking the money that so many people have sent over there and are going to be paying them with that money for clean up. So seriously if you think im being selfish you are sadly mistaken. I think I have every right to be upset and outraged and what is going on here.

And yes it is going to take along time for them to rebuild. But is it the best solution here? Is it best for them? Build and then it be destroyed cause you and both know that something will hit again cause they are in 2 different lines of that path. Not all countries have that money to support them for 10 years. Nevermind that Canada (which im from Canada) has set in a new rule (people that are haitian that live in Canada can sponser their aunt uncle sister brother cousin etc etc) you know what that is going to do to Canada. Think long term. Everyone is just thinking long term. All the Countries and Nations are going to hurt themselves in the long run and when there is no more money to support your own butt where are you going to be?

I see what you mean, you sound a bit skeptic, and thats understandable. I don´t think Haiti would help other country if it came down to the case, simply because Haiti is the Worlds poorest country. It is said that it would take 10 years to rebuilt their City. I know that lots of help has been given to then, but I honestly don't agree with the "what more do they want". Everyone has their opinions and I respect yours But in my point of view is a little selfish to speak in that manner.

I don't have information about all the fund Hiati is getting, but I think people should contribute more to the disaster reconstruction of that country. Hiaiti is oen of the poorest countries of the world and it will be valuable if we can help peoople of that country by even small offerings. I heard that today there was another earthquake in Haiti.

Yes, just today one of 6.0... It is a FACT that Haiti is the worlds poorest country, and is a sad thing to see how those people cant help themselves and fight for food. I think the United States should send more troops over to haiti to help rebuilt. If the US Government sent them to Irak to destroy, then they can send them to rebuild. And I think that if everyone in the world donated clothing food reserves or what ever else it will be of great help.

I would say when ever someting happens the United States is right there to lend a helping hand. The US is helping them by bringing here for help. They have nothing left in their country.I feel so bad for those people.Just this morning they had another earth quake that had them running around scared. There's alot of rescues there and medical help for the people.I say they are being cared for.

i think enough is not being done. but on a personal level there is only so much that can be - do what you can and do not feel guilty you are not able to do more.

Is not a matter of feeling guilty and I'm not talking about a single person doing something for Haiti, I mean the Governments should do more to help.

The effort being put forth by a good number of countries is nothing short of miraculous. That being said, all the effort in the world can only get in at certain pace. Right now, haiti is completely leveled, there is no infastructure, almost no government or emergency services. Many roads blocked or damaged, only one airport with one runway and no control tower or lights, the ports - especialy the big one, is damaged beyond use and cannot offer ships access, hospitals are gone, no utitlites -electricity, running water, etc,. In short, it is like having plenty of water to fill the pool, but only a drinking straw with which to put the water in the pool. This is going to take even the best efforts years to restore anything close to a livable functioning society.

From my point of view, the world is trying its best to help Haiti, but the problem is that Haiti needs more than what we have provided. It is a really impoverished country and becomes even worse after the devastated earthquake. However,I think the Haitian government is faced with a long haul, instead of relying completely on people from outside world. America has donated money and some reliefs and so did many other countries. The fact that they need more help is understandable, and everyone who is capable of giving a hand should show your love. In addition, the Haitian government should call to cooperate with other countries to reconstruct Haiti,to fight for welfare for its people and to regulate every activity keeping everything in order. The world is one family and every family member needs to remember this and uplift themselves for the overall development of the Big Family.

In times like these, people should always do their BEST in helping out. I also wanna help these people, but then I don't have money. I don't know how to donate clothes from my country. I actually thought of donating my first $10 that I'll get here at MyLot to them. But still, let's be thankful that at least there is help that's coming for them. I'll pray for them. Those who really have nothing to give, prayers are perfect. May God help them survive.

Yes, that is very kind of you to want to donate. I am sure with a little browsing around you can make your donation, even through pay pal, just beware because there will be many people trying to profit from this Is a shame that people take advantage of these sort of disasters to put money into their pockets.

The help that they receive is not enough. If only EVERY single person in this Earth would help, either by donating their money or time, then that would be the best. Other people just don't care. It's easy for them to feel that way because they're not the ones going through it.

Actually... I don't think we do. Yes of course, we're doing everything we can, but will this save all those life that are either sick/injured or still under buildings? A lot of people saying on TV: "We haven't seen any medics or any help down here". That was yesterday. Today's good news, Medics, food, water, clothes have arrived. It's been 8 days until the earthquake, which is I guess, really long. We're not doing enough, but we're doing as great as we can.

I agree with you here, I do believe we are doing something (as far as the Government), but we can sure do more. 8-9 days is a long time if you think about it, people are going ballistic over food, water and what ever... Food is now being sold in the black market for over 6 times what is worth. It is a shame that the same citizens of Haiti are taking advantage of such situation. I also think that our governments can do a whole lot more to help that country.
