What do YOU need to be happy?

So, I know there are a lot of people on this site, and I know we all have different needs.
I'm not really asking "what makes you happy" which in most cases we'd get "kids, my spouse, etc."
No - what do you need in order to maintain your level of happiness? Do you need your house to be clean? Laundry done? The bills being paid? Spouse's cooperation? Hell, maybe all you need to stay happy on a daily basis is a good cup of coffee from the coffee shop down the street?
There are little things throughout the day that have potential to bring us down - maybe ruin the mood so to speak.
With me - my overall whatever that I need is order. My house, my husband, daughter, bills, pets... everything. I like structure - well at least "structure that sometimes bends a little"... so like... a rubber band structure. haha
Love - money - whatever - that all falls in line where it needs to be and is also included in the above.
What do you need to keep your life at peace?

My thinking on this topic has changed drastically in the last year and half. It used to be that if i had my nice huge house, my nice vehicle, all my nice things in my house everything was perfect. BUT then in a matter of about 15 minutes ALL those things were destroyed in a flood...no nice things, no house, no vehicle, no nice clothes its was all gone! So at that point it hit me, i can let this destroy my life and family or i can be happy for the things we still had each other. For about 3 months it was a life changing experience! You go from having it ALL to being thankful just to have a clean dry pair of socks to put on. Amazing how it changes your whole out look on life. Now today im happy we have a house again (not as big not as nice) just a place to live for my kids makes me happy. Also bills being paid on time every month makes me happy. All i really need in my life to be happy and comfortable is security and to have emotional needs met! Material things dont equal happiness because in a blink of an eye those things can all be gone and then what do you have. I found i need to put my happiness into something other than material things.

Thanks for the great words of encouragement. Mylots has helped alot with helping me to stay focused on the important parts of life since starting my life over. It dont matter how big or small the problems are in ones life we all need alittle encouraging every once in while. Even over the internet its great to get to know people and maybe in some small way make internet friends day brighter.

So if you take away the obvious, which are family, health, wealth, etc., all I need is some quiet time for myself.
Actually, it's not more of being happy, it's more of being sane. I have little kids, I have a job, a house to run, and a lot of expectations. I need to find time just for myself. This could be alone reading, or alone watching TV, or even just the drive home from work. So just I could hear myself think.

I need stability, structure and I need comfort, and I need to be warm! I also have certain sleeping and bathroom requirements that must be met; unless we're camping, then I'm a little more lenient on those. I know that sounds pretty lame but for the most part all I really need to be happy is to be comfortable. Things like the bills being paid and the relationship being in good shape are very important too, but they're also kind of givens for us. I'm actually pretty easy to please. A lot of the time a perfect evening is just being curled up on the couch with a big fluffy blanket, my husband and a cat.

Well in all reality - its WHEN the bills are paid and the relationships are in good shape, that is part of our comfort :)

What you need to be happy? My answer will be "a set of happy mind". Why I say so?? Because it is truly the only one that can make you happy.. Nothing will ever make you happy than your mind set.
All those material things, such as cars, houses, jewelry, and many more will not make you happy for forever. Believe me. Okay, at the time you get it, you will feel happy.. But, wait.. hold on a second.. in no longer time after you having it, you will soon be not happy. You will change your things, and you need to work hard to have that things, then after you get it.. guess what? No longer time, you feel unhappy again, and want to have something else again.
How about our partners? You have to make sure that you love him and you are happy with everything he is.. Not, you are happy for he becomes what you want him to be. This will cost you a short happiness, and soon.. you will not feel happy about him anymore. And soon, you will think to have an affair, or simply break up. It is also the same, when you try to change yourself to be someone you are not for someone you love, just to get him by your side.
So, happiness is about your mind set.. Because nothing is eternal in this world, neither the happiness you get when you get those things you want.. Neither when you can with be someone you love.. how if those things change, how if that someone you love change?? Will you still have the happiness???
Be honest with yourself, and be grateful.. That's the key to happiness in your mind.

Honestly, I don't need much to be happy. I could care less if I was rich or had a million cars or a fancy home. I would much rather just have a steady income. What makes me happy is working hard. But while working hard is very important... one must learn to play hard. This is the key to happiness... Just doing what you love to do on your free time, but also having a profession in which you actually enjoy.

hi shell,
Inorder to be happy i give priority to first three things food, health, money. If absence of any one of this you may feel unhappy through out your life.Ya i know there is nothing special as human lives for these things only...but these are main things which can move you further.
After these things comes friends, family, spouse etc. I feel happy when i am playing games or spending in a holiday with anyone from these people. I also may feel happy when i help some needy person it does nt mean a poor one or orphan etc but it can be anyone like child who needs advice, giving job vacancy details to a job seeker..etc

everyday is no good to everybody but still we can be happy for everything just appreciate little things, always smile for everyone but don't think of a bad spirit let it go. If you can't there is a music that lets your mind control the rhythm, don't mind the people who have as little brain as cockroach. Be happy and look forward of what you want without hurting anybody.

A life where I live in a rather comfortable manner. I have some things that I like, but I do not think it is too much to ask. Shelter, food, electricity, my computer, really some simple things. Also good family and good friends can lead to happiness. I do not need a lot of money, just enough to live a rather comfortable life style. Okay, maybe a little bit more, but you get the picture.

I think another happy thing is Making friends here. Even if you have money, lover etc. But you don't have some friend around you. It is sad. When you have good friends, You can pour your any things wiht them. And they can help you if you have any trouble. So we all have to need good friends.

Hello Shell,
To be happy, Id want to make sure that I can take care of everybody in my family. To feed them, to provide a nice clean house for them. So it wouldnt only be one thing but more like two things for me. Enough money to be able to feed and provide a nice place to stay and play ......and health so I can keep on caring for them and be there for them.
