I have always been impressed by persons whe are able to reel off several bible verses at will because I have never been able to do do .Its not that I dont read the bible ,I do but I am never able to memorise the verses ,I may know what they say in essence but no specifically. In fact the only bible verse I know is John 3:26 which I only know because that one is io popular ....For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten son ..........I think I better stop there before I embarrass myself
Are you able to remember several bible texts at will? and how many do you think you can remember

My dear I think you committed a typo error and kindly allow me to correct it first. The Bible verse you quoted is John 3:16 - For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten son that whosoever believeth in him should not perish but have everlasting life.
As to your question...yes I am making it a point to memorize one new verse from the Bible each day. I have memorized lots of them so far. I love the Bible so much because it is the Word of God and it how God is communicating to me. I've always been keeping in my mind Psalm 119 verse 97 which says "Oh how I love they law it is my meditation all the day." This drives me to open my Bible every morning before I do any work so that I could meditate on it. I also do make it a point to read my Bible while traveling my way to my job each morning. It is better to read the Bible the whole two hours of travel than read depressing news or do nothing at all. It keeps me closer to God. Actually I've even memorized whole chapters from the book of Psalms like Psalms 1, 23, 5 and as many as 12 successive verses from Psalm 37 and Psalm 119. I have memorized many others and I find them really useful to keep me guided.
These are verses in the Bible that make me even more inspired to spend more time reading His words and to memorize them and keep them in my heart and mind as well:
Psalm 119:11 Thy word have I hid in my heart that I might not sin against thee
Psalm 119:105 says: "They Word is a lamp unto my feet and a light unto my path."
Psalm 119:15 I will meditate in thy precepts, and have respect unto thy ways
Psalm119:47 And I will delight myself in thy commandments, which I have loved.
Psalm 119:133 Order my steps in thy word: and let not any iniquity have dominion over me.
Psalm 119:103How sweet are thy words unto my taste! yea, sweeter than honey to my mouth!
Psalm 1:2-3 But his delight is in the law of the LORD; and in his law doth he meditate day and night. And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that bringeth forth his fruit in his season; his leaf also shall not wither; and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper.
2 Timothy 3:16: "All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness."
Hebrews 4:12For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.
There are a lot more actually but I may run at of space. It is always my delight to share and quote Bible verses because I want God to speak through me.

Hi ronnyb, Sorry friend but isn't that supposed to be John 3:16? i wonder if you aren't doing this just to see how many will correct you? I'm sure that there are those who know the Bible better than me but I feel that I know the book fairly well and have quoted it many times. Blessings.

I, like you, know the meaning to many verses, but have GREAT difficulty memorizing them!!! The one thing I have noticed is that most who can quote Chapter & Verse are usually those who need it the MOST!!! They are so SURE that YOU are going to hell that they feel the need to save you by quoting the EXACT piece of scripture that will get you into Heaven. When in fact, if you watch them closely, they break every rule that they tell you that you need to learn. Therefore, I feel WE are BETTER off UNDERSTANDING what the words mean rather than memorizing a bunch of words that means NOTHING to us!!! I have heard many preachers say that if you look down your nose at someone else because you are more religious than a friend, then you have paved your own road into hell!!! God gave us the words to UNDERSTAND...NOT parrot!!!

Hi ronnyb,
Really we can memorize many bible verses. Read the Holy bible everyday and memorize the verses you have read while traveling ,walking etc. Pray everyday before reading the holy Bible. Pray to Jesus to Give the knowledge of memorizing. He will help you to memorize the Bible verses. Pray and study.

I remember a lot of verses and quote them to myself and others when the situation warrants it. The only problem is that I seldom remember where they are! This has been an ongoing problem, so I'm resigned to keeping a good concordance handy.
A few that I remember are Psalm 25:1, John, chapter 14 (almost the entire chapter) and... where was that other one?? LOL!

I feel for you. I have a silent envy too, for those who can quote the Bible as the situation calls for it. I have two favorite verses that I remember - Jeremiah 29:11 and Isaiah 41:10. My favorite chapter is 1 Corinthians 13, though I don't remember all.
A good way to remember a verse is to memorize one verse every week. More than memorize, try to meditate on it. Apply it for that one week in your life and see how powerful it works in your life. Once the verse had taken root in your heart, learn another verse next week, then do it again.
I hope that helps. ^_^

I know a lot of the stories from the bible, but I certainly can't spout off verses from the bible off of the top of my head. I think that there are many people that are very famiiar with John 3:16 and the only other bible verse that I can recite from memory is the shortest verse of the entire bible although I can't remember which book, chapter, or verse it is. That verse is "Jesus wept." Now, if you were to ask me to name as many books from the bible as I could I would be in a lttle bit better shape, but still would be far from perfect.

Hi ronnyb .
yes I can memorize them but it takes practice and review. The Lord recently laid it on my hear to to start memorizing again. In Bible institute we were required to remember about six or so. Some I can still quote, but I forget the reference on them. We were to memorize Romans 3:10, 6:23, 10:9 and 10 which should really extend to vrse 12, Acts 4:12, Rev. 3:20, Isaiah 1:18, and another one in Isaiah about or righteousnnes being as filthy rags. I also know John 1:1, 1:12, 1 John 5:20. I recently added passages from Isaiah that show God is one in an effort to help some JW's realize that Jesus just cannot be "a god." I can quote them pretty well but the references are not quite sticking yet. Isa. 43:10-11, 41:8b, 45:2-7 ?, or is it 43, and others.
I keep a paper of them printed out handy in the car so I can review them while waiting.
Also know Titus 3;5, Eph 2:8-9, Acts 4:12.
It is a double blessing to do this because Holy Scripture is always good for entire being and it memorizing them exercises the mind.

I disagree with quoting Bible verses on their own. The Bible should be said and read in context and taking random verses from the Bible because what we actually think they should mean may actually mean something completely different in the text of the Bible.
I never have and never will memorise verses from the Bible but try to memorise stories and the meaning behind the stories. I also ensurethat if i use a verse from the Bible that I have a discussion about it with someone that has studied the Bible at college and I consult my Study Bible.

I live in the Philippines and Majority of us are Christians and majority of Christians here are Catholic. I've been studying in a Catholic School since Kindergarten until I graduated high school. But then I got into this University of Santo Tomas (the oldest univ in Asia) so I know a lot of Bible quotes it's just that I didn't memorize from which verse is which. by the way my favorite quotation of all time (not just in the Bible) is from Mathew:
"Do not judge, or you too will be judged. For in the same way you judge others, you will be judged, and with the measure you use, it will be measured to you"
