Do you experience clicking bones? I do, my knees, shoulders, it's non-stop!

I don't know why I have this problem but whenever I bend down my knees click and it's not as though I have been doing any heavy lifting with them. I do like to exercise and I sometimes wonder whether I am overdoing it! I cycle a lot and I really push myself quite hard and so my legs ache, especially my knee joints! So, I'm just wondering if this is healthy! What do you think? I'm not overly bothered by it but you know how it goes: "Am I starting to get the first signs of athritis?" and all those other crazy thoughts that you start to think. Do you experience things like this yourself? My bones aren't so bad that they feel as though they are going to break although you never can tell!!!! The clicking is so loud and it's not very nice when you see other people hearing this and cringing!! Andrew

it is to due with the cartlidge wearing out. cartlidge is a 'cushion' between the bones and wears out with age. you should get it checked out as it is the first sign of something more serious.

That doesn't sound too positive although I'm definitely one to check things out if I am concerned. Still, things seem ok for the moment and I may do further research in order to establish what really is going on. Thanks for your thoughts on this. Andrew

That's good to know! I would hate to think that this could be the start of some major problems in future. Still, it's not painful it's just the noise, it's really loud! I love my exercise and I was just waiting for the snow to disappear, I can now return to cycling. Andrew

I have some similar problems. What I understand is that we should not do only one type of exercise. I would ask the doctor, of course, but mine said it is not really a problem. The popping sound is air escaping from the various joints.

Well, I guess it's good to do different types of exercise although my main exercise has to be cycling at the present time! Still, I would love to return to swimming but this is more than I can afford right now. I'm glad that this is not a major problem. Andrew

I have been studying, reading about, and doing Yoga for over 30 years. (the Avatar you see is me doing a seated forward bend) People do not understand that humans did not evolve riding a bicycle, lifting heavy objects repetitively, or jogging, and few people realize that their affected joints will not stand up under this type of punishment. Proof of this is the Huge number of hip and knee replacements being done at this time. Fortunately for you it may not be too late to remedy your situation. Yoga does not stress the joints, but gently stretches them, which helps to lubricate and strengthen. I would advise that you do not continue with the heavy lifting. Stop any activity that stresses your knees, and other affected joints. Begin to do yoga as soon as possible. Be good to your body, and it will be good to you!

I've heard that yoga can be pretty good for the body although I have never tried that. There must be countless classes in my area! I guess it couldn't do any harm to do some research on this, thanks for the suggestion. I love my cycling too much to give it up even for a short while. Thanks for your thoughts on this. Andrew

I do experience this as well... I have also been in two car accidents and a motorcycle crash. But I do get this all the time. Nothing I can do about it really. I was told I would have to have reconstructive surgery to repair it sadly. I wish I didn't have to... but what can ya do right?

Hi AndrewFreyne. I would recommend that you and anyone else with the problem to take natural calcium supplements. I see one post above where a parent said it was inherited. Still take a natural calcium supplement.

I haven't heard of that but it's something I certainly will think about. I don't drink enough milk which is supposed to be good for your bones and teeth! Still, if it's not that expensive then I may experiment with the natural calcium supplements. Thanks for your thoughts on this. Andrew

That's something I don't do actually and perhaps I should! I don't drink milk! I only ever have milk in tea and that's it. I know they say that milk is very good for your bones and teeth though. Well, even as I sit at the computer now late into the night my ankle just squeeked!. I'm not going to worry myself over it though. I'm only glad that I can continue with my exercise unhindered! Andrew
