Hi everyone! I'm planning to visit the pool and go to sauna at the weekend, but I've managed to get myself some nice and blue bruise on my leg. It looks really bad, so I decided to ask a suggestion from you. Do you know any means that could help me get rid of this bruise or at least lighten it somehow? Somebody told me about putting a raw potato on a bruise, but I haven't noticed any effect yet...

Hi, Biomechanoid. Can you wear a pair of light pants that will cover the bruise up? You can use fading cream, but is going to take some time to heal in color though. You can try a warm cloth that will make the bruise appear less noticeable. It may be able to lower the bruise inflammation. Don't let your bruise stop you from going to the sauna this weekend. Have a good time though.

Ah, some light pants is a good idea! I think I should really put some pants on, but I will still try to get this bruise lighter too, maybe I'll succeed!;) Thanks for useful response!;)

Hi Biomechanoid, I use a paste oif turmeric powder mixed with a little water on the bruise if I run out of ointments. Otherwise neospirin is probably the best antibiotic ointment for cuts and bruises. i find it very useful - all the best and hope your bruises heal fast

I've heard that you can massage bruises into going away quicker, but not from a doctor so I don't know how reliable that information is. I'd just let nature take its course. It may look bad, but it's better to let it heal by itself then to try something that might make it worse.

Perhaps I'll try massaging when it doesn't hurt that much anymore. Thanks for sharing!;)

I would suggest letting nature take its course. Brusies are nothing but an accoumlation of broken blood veseles that are close to the surface of the skin. While it may not look good, and may hurt at first, the best thing to do is let things go. Perhaps your trip out will help loosen the musles and get your blood flowing better. Once the blood clears out, the discoloration usually fades.

Nature surely knows, how to deal with this at best! I'll see, if I can help her deal with it, or perhaps I would really let it be that way. I still have a couple of days till going to pool. Thanks for suggestion!;)

When I was still young I used to have bruises especially when I fall or hit on something and my mom always "compress" it. If you got the bruise and its still very fresh then you can do the "cold compress" by putting on some ice on it for 5 minutes. But if its already a few days old, you can do the "hot compress" by placing a hot towel on top of the bruise for 5 minutes, 2 times a day. It was always effective for me and I am still doing it now. My bruises usually last for 5-7 days but also depending on the severity of your condition.

When I was younger I did have many bruises too, but now I can't remember the last time I had bruises. It's quite rare for me, but now I fell quite hard on my side, so it's no wonder the bruises appeared. I'll try these compresses, I used to compress my feet, if I managed to sprain one out and in these case it was helpful too. Thanks for suggestions!;)
