Ireland on Horseback

For my 30th birthday this summer, I travelled to Ireland on my own. The first few days I spent doing day trips and touring on my own. I then met up with a wonderful group of people and travelled the West Coast of Ireland on Horse back. There is no better way to see the scenery than on horseback. If you ever get a chance to travel on horseback, do it!

I've been on 3 horseback travels, 1 in Norway and 2 in Austria, and all 3 were great. I've been thinking about going again, but I've become a bit too attached to my camera when travelling, and riding with a big SLR isn't really very practical :-/ I've been trying to teach my horse to stand still while I take photos, but he's not very fond of standing still unless he's eating :-)

I completely agree. I love taking pictures, and it was very difficult to take pictures while riding. We spent a day on the beach (yes, a beach in Ireland) and took the horses in the ocean swimming and raced along the beach, and I couldn't get any decent pictures.

A friend of mine bought a small compact that she took when kayaking. That would probably have been a good camera to bring, but taking pictures while racing is a bit risky if you suddenly need both hands on the reigns :-)

I am pleased to hear that you really enjoyed the horse riding that you did in Ireland. I used to ride a Highland mare called Heather when I was a teenager. I have fond memories of her. The last time I went riding was when I was twenty eight years old. I rode a horse at Kalbarri in Western Australia. It was lovely to see the beautiful landscape from my place on the horse's back. I love animals and think horses are adorable.
