what steps to be a good listener?

I teach English t many students and have found a solution to help them with it. I have told them to have a small scratch pad with them and write down the key words they hear while the teacher is speaking. Then I ask the students to read out the key words they captured and ask the students if they caught any other words which were not picked up by the others. I then ask one of the students who struggles to perform well in listening and ask him to do a recap. If you do this continuously for a week, you will find that you have engineered your brain to pick up all the key words and will no longer have to make a note of them. Good Luck!
