Compliment makes life brighter

I attended a seminar about public relations recently. Compliment is an important way to build good relations with others. We were asked to carry out an experiment wich I would like to share with you.
We were given some flower seeds, which were divided into two groups. We put the two groups of seeds into two vases, which were put into the same room with same conditions. The flower seeds in the two vases shoot up after three days. They we labelled the vases differently. We put GOOD on one and BAD on the other. For the flower with GOOD label, we praised it every day, while for the flower with BAD label, we scolded it every day. To our big supprise, the former grew stronger and blossomed after a week while the latter died on the fifth day.
That is the power of compliment. The plant likes good words, no need to mention humans.Compliment encourage people to do a better job.

this stroy i heard for the first time, but i believe this althoug a little surprised. i agreed very much that compliment makes life brighter. i don't like my colleagues but i would still praise her sometimes (maybe i don't feel the same inside) just to make our relationship better. and it works. every human being likes to hear good words, especially for ladies.

yeah, it's true. because i experienced it. When someone give me compliment i'm really very happy with it..compliment makes me feel complete and even happier even thought my day seems to be moody and feels like incomplete well with complete i forgot my problems.

I agree on what you said, compliments do really make life better for us and all the one around us.
Keeping relations is always important, if you are in personal touch with a person they wll go out of their way to come help you with whatever you need.
Its the way humans work, you give and you take you can't just take and take!

yes , this was a best discussion i am reading on Mylot from the day i joined here.Compliments to you.yes ofcourse we sometimes will be fooled for the right decisions we make in our life.We can see unexpected results for many things.

i completely agree with the point that you are making here.... appreciation acts a great motivational factor.... it has always been for me since i was a kid.... and now too when i stop by and appreciate somebody for the good they did , the person feels really happy about it.... and whenever i appreciate someone, i feel good about myself too... so i think appreciation not only encourages the person being appreciated but also the person who appreciates.... it takes your mind away from all the negativities around...

OOOOOOO yeah this is very true how something as simple as a little compliment can really make and brighten someone's day right up. it's truly something that can be more valuable than gold in some people's life when they receive a sompliment some people just have some very horrible experiences or days and they just feel like they are at the end of their rope or they just feel like no one cares and their self worth is adversely affect by this but then someone comes by and gives them a compliment and it makes them feel good about themselves it makes them feel appreciated and needed then they also feel that they have done something in your life.

I totally agree with you as compliment is necessary for everyone's growth whether its growth in an individual's career. You must buck up and say keep it up only when it is required. The thought that if you appreciate and give compliments then people may not work good is wrong. The more you compliment, the more quality of work will be the output. Your discussion was really informative as you gave example from real life to make people understand on this true fact. Please keep up the good work.

Yes, I do agree, compliment makes the surrounding wonderful. I find it very inspiring, it felt like everything is bright and pink in my environment. It makes the world go round. It helps us to do something wonderful too and feel very light deep with in.

I love the outcome of you experiment, it is a good thing that now we encounter people here in mylot who spreads the idea of compliment as a good influence in our lives. I myself believe in this fact that's why I love giving compliments as well. I love hearing them too even if its not about me, because it makes me believe and feel that i'm in a good environment...it's like living a positive life. I know that surrounding yourself with positive views and compliments could help you get through with a very tough life...it helps you survive and succeed. hi! yes, i really believe in this. its good to hear compliments for it boost our self confidence. its like when you have finished a well done job your boss will praise you. this will inspire you to do better or even make your best on the next project.
but sometimes, there are exceptions to this. while this will always do good in work, its not always with personal relationship. like in friendship, we do not have to always praise our friends just to be with them. we must also have the courage to tell them they are wrong for them to grow.

Good point! Compliment indicates your positive attitude about people and your love for them. But of course, you can not praise people who did something wrong. You compliments can not be sincere and doesn't make sense if you compliment everybody all the time.

I have worked in many fields and would like to stress that emotional intelligence is valued much higher than IQ. One must learn to appreciate the people one works with and let them know that their work, contributions and very being is very important to you.
Mind you this should definitely extend to one's family as well. We as human beings tend to take for granted the people we live with and put them in an invisible arena which lacks your aura. We should take the time to appreciate and compliment all our loved ones without fail.

Dear Kathy, thanks for your share of this interesting experiment. As you said, compliment is very important to our daily communication with others. Your compliment to others will give them more confidence and power. Actually, not only the others but also ourselves need compliment. Give others and ourselves a compliment everyday, the life will be more smooth.

Yes you are correct, I agree absolutely. Compliments are encouraging words that can really build a good relationship. It is a powerful tool to let others feel that what they have done is important and useful. If we only keep looking at the negative side of anyone, without considering their good qualities, then it is unfair. The lesson I got from your story, is that, for those who are always the victim of public judgement, focus of rumors and bad image, just dont give up be strong and you will surely grow. Life is just fair for those who will treat others fairly.

yeah true kathy, it helps a lot if it is a sincere compliments u bestow to a person,...it really motivates.in all walks of life, rich, poor, young, old, man, woman really needed encouragement if you want them to maximize their potentials ...no doubts even plants respond to it bec it has life.

i really agree with your story about the flower ,i think it will really happen.
me really want all parents to think of it.
they used to criticize their children for their marks and compare them.
they newer try to congratulate them for their work,or if the mark is low try to help in their studies.
if they do so... it will really be a hand on their sorrow
