***Craigslist - What Happened To You?***

Yesterday I decided to place an ad on Craigslist stating that I was looking for work. I've been out of work for months already so I thought I'd give this a try, even though it was against my better judgement.
I put it under the "Resume" section, but of course, did not post my resume or any type of information about myself, other than what type of work I was looking for. I also mentioned my previous experience and how many years I've done this.
Seriously now, a year or two ago, I use to go to Craigslist all the time to find work, and actually found many jobs there, not only for myself, but for other people I knew were looking.
All I've received so far is nothing but SPAM, SPAM, SPAM, SPAM, junk mail, offers from out of the country, fake websites, fake work at home jobs which I know are illegal, and even one guy wanting me to come over and give him a rub down, ! Not one real offer for work.
It's terrible today what these losers are doing to everyone. Just thought I'd let you know in case you have the same idea in mind about posting for work.
Just be careful out there!

Thanks Jill, yes, I am very careful there. I might have to drop it as a good source because it isn't anymore, unfortunately. The spammers are winning out because there are so many, makes me sick.

Yes, it is terrible. Craigslist is very popular for jobs, selling items, community affairs, etc., and you can post for free there. The sad part is, right now it's going down the drain because they can't control the spammers. They did try, and they're still trying, but it's just not working anymore. These scumbag scammers are out to get anyone who isn't working, it's all phishing for information about you now. So sad. I do check other sites which are legitimate, and even some of them are having trouble at this time.

I've never even bothered with Craigslist in all this time for anything, whether to buy something, sell something, whatever. The main problem is I don't think anyone is really monitoring what's going up on that site. I really totally lost interest in them sometime ago when I heard how people often placed up pets for adoption and for free. Then I heard that story where one man "adopted" three cats for free from Craigslist and later tortured and killed them in some kind of ritual thing...that totally turned me off from Craigslist. As for your getting so much spam...don't forget you have a lot of wackos that probably make it a living in itself in hunting around for "victims" to scam/spam

They have alot of problems with pets and people selling them or giving them away. It's probably because it's a free site. I use to have luck there, but not anymore. And yes, the scumbags are after anyone who is not working, just like a predator. It's too bad, it use to be a good site for everyone.

Thanks very much for letting us know about your experience as quite frankly I had contemplated doing the same thing and wondered if I had made a mistake in not doing so.
I have found Careerbuilder.com, socialservice.com, Monster.com and other local job sites to be better than Craigslist for jobs...
Good luck in your job search.

Yes, my resume is on careerbuilder and monster too, but even there, I've already received spam from other countries. I must be a good target, haha, but little do they know, I'm up to their tricks. Such a shame for honest people looking to make a living, they really make it hard on everyone. Unfortunately, some people will fall for this garbage and end up in a worse situation than when they started. I wish we could get rid of all these scumbags once and for all.

I guess its better to be the "seeker" than making yourself be the "seeked". I guess its like fishing and who knows, maybe you will catch the big one eventually. One suggestion would be to set up a seperate e-mail for any Craigslist activities sort of like a fish tank.

Craigslist use to be a great place to find jobs, and now it's all over. What a shame that these scumbags have to be ruthless and prey on innocent unemployed people. I just feel sorry for the one's who fall for it. And from what I've read, there are plenty of baby fish out there just getting eaten up alive by them. Not a good time to be looking for legitimate work for anyone. Thanks!

I have had many similar experiences in my job search. Ironically enough, I did find a part time job, but it came to me ... so to speak.
Had nothing to do with CL.
I do however still have positive experiences with the smaller stuff. Such as, selling or giving away items to clear out my house.
I found a great home for our dog that we had to get rid of.
I personally have determined it's still "ok" for personal uses, but not for professional use anymore.
It is what it is... a free site for everyone to use. You have to expect the spammers and abuse to go on in that type of environment.

Yeh, I know what you're saying, but it's never been THIS bad. It seems it got really worse over the last year because of so many people out of work now. What a shame. I find a few jobs on here and so have my friends, but that was a couple of years ago and it wasn't nearly this creepy.
I think I'll just use it for personal use too from now on. Such a shame, because eventually these losers will put Craigslist out of business. No one will go there anymore but spammers...so they can spam the other spammers.
