There is a clear warning to get away from Internet Explorer 6 as one can easily hack into gmail accounts. I made Opera as my default browser and it is highly recommended that all do it. Microsoft themselves have sent this warning. I heard it on NDTV - Newsnet yesterday. I was worried about my google talk which was tied up with Internet Explorer 6. Were you aware of this?

Hi allknowing.
First of all, IE6 is an old version. So everyone STOP before you go into panic mode and check and see what you have. IF anybody uses Internet Explorer, they should be using vers. 8 which is the latest and safest. If you regularly keep up on Windows updates (and everyone does, right?), than you should already have it. Microsoft probably issued that warning because 6 is a dinosaur and they no longer issue security patches for it.
I've known for years that Internet Explorer, being the most widely used browser, has also been the highest targeted for malicious attacks which, of course, makes sense. You wanna do the most damage, go for the most users.
Opera has been my default browser (I like it better than Foxfire which I also have) for a loooong time.
But, don't forget, you still need IE for certain functions like Windows updates and security patches, so don't 86 it entirely. Just make sure it's current.

So allknowing, why do you have limitations to updating IE6? ( Joke. *stupid grin*) What Windows OS are you using?
You said you put IE6 in the recycle bin. Did you actually go to Add/Remove Programs and remove it entirely? Be careful! Whether we like it or not, IE is a part of Windows and like I already noted, Windows uses it for updates and security patches. You will be unable to access the updates with Opera (I've tried it.)

No I have not uprooted it completely and in case you think I am not computer savvy you are wrong. And as for reasons why I cannot update that is between me and my technician!
