We all know what the effect of UV rays can do to our skin and cannot be told more often the importance of applying sunscreen. Despite all the emphasis and stress on the need to choose an effective sunscreen, I believe many of us still have not developed the habit of applying one. For one, going through the huge array of suncreen available in the market perhaps probably deters one from buying one as to a layman SPF30 may not necessarily make much sense. Secondly to other, the stickiness left on the skin after applying sunscreen may not sound like a tempting idea. Nonetheless the importance of sunscreen should not be neglected and if in doubt of what the SPF does we can always approach the friendly staff for some assistance. So do go out there and start shopping for your sunscreen if you still do not have one.

Hi luckymichelle, i never go out without wearing sunscreen, because the uv rays are very intense in my region. I use a sunscreen with spf35, there are lots of good quality sunscreens which has a matte features, these are non greasy and good to use during the hot and humid summer days.

I always wear sunscreen whenever I'm outside. My Dr advised me to get 15 to 20 minutes each day before putting on the sunscreen so I can get the benefit of additional vitamin D. (A test he did for something else showed I was dangerously low on vitamin d) He said that too many people are low on vitamin D because they immediately put on the sunscreen before going outside. I come from a farming family, and still farm. My father never wore sunscreen throughout all those years on a tractor out in the fields, then once he got to his 60's he was constantly developing new skin cancers. I also watched my in-laws for 30 years laying out in the sun getting tans and they used to make fun of me because I'd use sunscreen. Wouldn't you know, they both developed many episodes of skin cancers when they were in their 60's too. I think that pretty much proved sunscreens importance to me and the rest of the family. It's a good habit to get into, and it probably will save a lot of grief many years down the road!

Actually, more and more studies are showing we are wearing so much sunscreen that we are nearly all deficient in Vitamin D and this is exceedingly bad for our health. In fact, the chances of dying from cancer because of low D levels is much higher than dying of skin cancer. So, we should try to get at least 15 minutes per day of unprotected sun exposure. And supplement with D in the winter and in northern areas.
