I think the cell phone companies would loose a lot of money because you would see people sending more texts, you could see text in 2 pages but how ever the can run promos where they give you say 50 free text messages. It would help a lot.

I doubt if they going to implement that because they going to lose a big money if they going to do that. Free text is not my problem I have freetext every month to Smart because I'm retailing eload in Smart. I'm very thankful because I don't need to load very often because I have freetext to them.

In other countries it is free since they do Plans and not those loads and stuff. It's a part of their Plan that they are given free sms privilege.

well here in uk I get 1200 free texts a month,
well I use the term free loosely as nothing is ever free I am still paying for the texts but they are included in my 20 uk pounds a month plan.
IF texts were free and unlimited your monthly contract price would have to increase or the cost of a handset as the phone companies need to make their profit so in essence great ised in practice they wouldn't actually be free as you would prob pay more for your tariff or phone or both.

There was a time when text is free. That was when Globe is the only GSM carrier in the Philippines. Until it went to 300 hundred free texts and eventually end up to a peso per SMS sent. The main hindrance why Telcos will fight tooth and nail just to prevent the implementation of free SMS is the income they will lost in the event this gets implemented. We're not looking at millions but billions of earnings here. Lets face it that big corporation can afford the best lawyers in this country. So fighting in the courts in just a walk in the park. Our politicians can talk all they want on TV but at the end of the day it's the argument in the courts that's going to followed.

I would love free texting without having to pay a monthly fee for it. My cell bill would be so much cheeper. However, as it stands right now I pay 15/month in addition to my voice plan to have unlimited text messaging on my primerary line. I don't bother having texting on the secondary line, because the one who uses it doesn't know what texting is.

You've gotta be kidding me.. That is like the best thing ever! You guys are so lucky because they are actually discussing implementing free texts over there. Texting costs in malaysia are relatively expensive and I would really welcome it if they did that here as well

My plan has unlimited texting, so you could say that I do get it free. I do have to pay extra to have the data plan though, and that is $10 a month extra. I did at one time sue the text messaging part of it, but I really don't text all that much now, as my daughter and I will talk on the phone instead of texting. I do have a quwerty keyboard which does make texting easier when I do text, so that part of it is good. I do think that everyone should be able to text and not pay extra for it, and maybe someday that will be available to all. Take care, and happy mylotting.
