Hi Julporps
I have a blind friend. I was one of the special ed students at school due to dyslexia, and I had a chance to learn about the world of the blind people. Its rather interesting and the way they cope is very inspiring.
Hmm at first I though they needed constant 24 hour care but I quicky learned that was not the case. They are pretty independent. Among the things that opened my narrow minded thinking are :
1) Blind people can cook for themselves
When I heard blind people cook for themselves, I cringed! It was like "How would they know if they burned the food?" Or "how would they know they did not pour too much water in the soup pot" and another one was "How do they use the knife, would they cut themselves?"
Then I realised, it is totally do-able! They find ways to cook and it truly amazed me. You can look it up on the net for more info
2)Blind people can learn how to iron their own clothes
Frankly, I never touched an iron until I was 16. Now I am 18, and still hesitant to use an iron. A blind girl at my school, who is 13, has been trained to iron her own clothes.
Well actually it is amazing what people can do. :)

I feel sad and sorry seeing people with physical disabilities of any kind. On the other hand, I feel so lucky to be normal physically and mentally. Whenever I see one of them, I usually utter a silent prayer for their easy recovery and peace of mind. I hope this fact will serve as an eye opener for all to take care for themselves while its not yet too late.
