Students aren't that attentive anymore!

Teaching in Thailand is such a tiring yet wonderful experience. Students are nice and friendly. First term starts from May or June and ends in October. And the second terms starts from October or November that ends in February or March.
Students are very much attentive during the first term, and lose interests before the start of the second term. Their attention span become shorter too. Perhaps it's because they are looking forward for their next vacation, or something to that effect. I am not sure about that though. Do you know why they are behaving like that?

For me, being a student, during the second term I am more familiar with those around me and more comfortable. Once in a comfortable setting it is easier to lose attention and focus on other things and not so much about school. Also, they might have you figured out. If they know you are an easy going teacher, they may have figured out exactly what they have to do to get by and nothing more.

Yes, i agree with you. The first term of my student life is not that clear compared to the second term.. Second term seems to be an easy-go-lucky term for us. It was the term where we, the students cut some of the classes and just basically had fun. And because students are more familiar and more comfortable with each other and around them, just like what you said, it's easier to lose attention and focus. Thanks for sharing a bit of your experience when you were a student. Have a great day!

i think one reason is that schools/universities scheduled a lot of extra curricular activities during the second term. just an observation teaching here for about four years now.:-)

Thanks for the input anc. I kinda agree with you on that. Students aren't that attentive because the term will ends, couple of weeks from now. They are probably tired of going to school, tests, projects, those kind of stuff. Anyhow see you around here anc.. I hope you are going to be more active here in mylot. Just a piece of advice, keep on commenting on your soon to be posted discussion, comment on an existing discussion...or read the guidelines link at the bottom...

You are actually right about that vacation thing. Also as a student feeling the boredom.. Going to school, seeing same classmates, sitting on the same chair everyday.. Itz a routine that students usually het bored. try bringing them outside the four corners of the classroom. It will work. My teacher did that and the excitement is back

Welcome to Mylot garfield,Well, your statement that things are getting like a routine and students getting bored, cannot be disagreed. If things are a routine and that no challenge at all, people get bored. This thing does not apply to school alone because it's evident even at work or anywhere else. Thanks for sharing though..
