I once read an article whose contents "Muslims are required to pray 5 times a day at fixed times. During those prayers, they recite verses from the noble Qur'an which is in Arabic. The prayer positions include standing, browsing, prostrating and sitting. After embracing Islam, I was wondering WHY do I have to pray in this way. I liked the idea of stopping our daily activities 5 times to communicate to Allah The Permanent Who sustains everything. But I kept fighting the need to recite rote lines in Arabic during prayer. It is not my native language and therefore reciting in that language doesn't seem like it is from my heart. The sitting position during prayer can be quite uncomfortable to someone who is not used to this way of praying." Why would Allah want me to be so frustrated and be in difficulty when I'm trying to communicate with him?

Harvey mentioned that we can pray to him anytime using our own language. I agree with him. Even if you just wish it from the bottom of your heart, without any sentence coming from your lips, Allah will listen and understand. There are actually a lot of reasons and benefits we as creation of Allah are still unable to resolve regarding Solat (prayer). Right now, let's just think these 5 praying times as times when Allah wants us to be present in front of him. Then He told us specifically to worship Him in a way that he pleases. If we really accept Allah as the Almighty God, sure we have no objection on anything He wants us to do, right? They way to do compulsory prayers (salatul fardhi) is not created by Rasulullah s.a.w, but coming from Allah Himself. Your question of why should we prostrate, browse, stand and sit during prayer does not have any direct answer to them. Most believers will say that this is Allah's command for us to follow. However, some muslim scholars did experiments with the positioning of body during solat, and they came with tremendous result that will make you feel your iman (belief) will be strenghtened further. I have the book, but it's written in my language, Malay. I don't really know if the University which founded the research have the copy in English. Allah gives us the ni'mah (gift) of reasoning, and in the Quran He tells us to observe and think deeply about the creations. Finally, I would say, first, "we do it because Allah tells us to do it", then we'll find the answers to our curiosities. If you get frustrated by doing this kind of things, then believe that Allah is testing your faith.

Hi Drawan, The 5 time daily prayer 'salat' is not only the prayer. You can ask Allah anytime anywhere in any language. 'Salat' is prescribed in Arabic language, don't get frustrated about it. Until you learn the meanings of them and pronunciations of it you may feel some difficulties, if you have the will you can overcome it. When ever you recite or praise anything in the 'salat' you should reflect the meaning in mind and recite them. Human being is created to know the creator. We have to do what our creator want us to do. That is what mentioned in Quran the last edition of manual for mankind. Which says to accept prophet Mohammad the last messenger. He is the one shown the actual practical ways to us. So we are following what God instruct us to do, that is why we pray in that way. It does not mean it is just a ritual of standing and sitting. If you feel like some bored ritual then you have not found the real meaning of it or you have to understand it better. A human should seek knowledge. A muslim must seek knowledge to improve yourself. May Almighty God guide us to the right path. Peace.
