See that is the beauty of technology. They can only use the phones to communicate, whether sms or calling, but the rest of the functions, like the internet, is blocked. We do not allow them to surf the net on their phones. If they complain, we take the phone away. We have quite a nice understanding about this. At this day and age, you need to keep up with the young ones, otherwise you will be left behind and 14 is not so bad to have a phone. They know the rules and consequences.

then its good.......also i think you are right.at 14 they will not be able to surf internets, even if they do then not those things.....you should be free with your young ones but that should be within the limits.....with growing ages they will know themselves

It depends on how active the family in general is. If you have very active teens who aren't spending a lot of time at home, then having a cell phone might be a good way to keep track of what the kids may or may not be doing. Though this should occour around 15 16 when children are taking driving lesons and are in the 'can I barrow the car' stage.
Any younger then I'd have to wonder how well you're rasing your kid.

yup......absolutely right you are.....not before the age of 15 or 16.it will really harm your kid.......it will be bad for his future

yes....thats exactly what i meant about but dont you think 20 years is too much and by 16 you start doing things on your own.your parents need to keep track of you...i think by this time parents should give simple call and receive phones with no features

i think i will give my children their first cellphone when they start their high school. They will need it to contact friends and important people. It is the time where they are to socialize and explore what is out there. They should be equipped. And i want to check them up once in a while.

i got my cell phone when I turned 18 as my parents thought that I have become an adult so I got the cell phone. But nowadays I see 12 year old also roming with the cell phones but I also think it is better to give a child a cell phone at the age of 18 as it is time when they get to know the usage of the phone and know the value of it.

i dont think to know the value and proper usage of cell phones you have to be 18....to me 16 is the best age for parents to give cell phones,18 according to me will be too latefor a child.you also have to think about your child na??being that much strict with your child wont help that much
