Do you think they're just trying to bring us back to the movie house?

Lately I've noticed that movies these days are so much into effects, do you think it's just their strategy to get the people back into the movie house, since movies with good effects are not as good in a living room? Are you buying the strategy?
I personally liked the idea, but sometimes the plot, the storyline falls short of my standards, but wth right?
so how about you? would you watched movies with good effects at the comfort of your own home or would you go pay to see it in the movie house? :)

I think over the last decade or so there has been a very clear dumbing down when it comes to commercial cinema. Movies seem more intent going down the road of wowing people with stunning visual effects, over the top action or in the case of comedies scene after scene of set piece gags, which all work better on the big screen than at home. The trouble is that now commercial cinema has been dumbed down it's what the majority of younger audiences want, so the movie producers just keep on churning it out and so more people are heading off to the cinema to get the big screen sensation. You just need to look at Transformers which really did not have a great storyline but made up for it with special effects and over the top action and of course audiences loved it.
Sadly that does mean that for those of us who want to a great storyline and acting, with the effects just adding as bonus embelishment are often left to trawl the indie movies which can dare to be different becuase of their limited budgets.
So although I do believe that movies are intentionally making pictures more suited to the big screen with bigger effects, it's not enough to draw me to going to the cinema to see it. I would quite happily wait to watch it at home even if it did mean I didn't get the big screen wow factor. Because quite simply for me a movie has to be about the story first and effects are an after thought.

I just couldn't agree more!
Their influence to people is powerful, why can't they get a hold of that? Commercial movies back then were substantial, that you could even quote out their lines. It made me wonder who influenced who.

It's the question of what came first the chicken or the egg ......
I think about 15 years ago there was a sudden and recognizable amount of effects driven movies which unintentionally all came out at the same time, which wetted audiences appetites for more. Hollywood realising this, that consumers wanted more of effects based, dumbed down movies over compelling stories just went on a spree of supplying what the consumer wanted. So I would say it's the consumer who influences it because at some point in the future people will grow tired of dumb movies and there will be a shift back towards proper storytelling.

No, the special effects and 3D technology in movies is what you can say as "the need of the hour". New technologies and inventions have led to the revolution in film industry too. If movies are produced with the help of artificial characters and sound or video of course they create curiosity among the population. Therefore attracting large viewers is an advantage and big revenue and fame also brings the statbility to workforce behind the scene.

Yes, I do think its a strategy done by the big movie companies to make the movies more appealing with all the special CGI effects of explosions. For me, I would rather see a movie with a good storyline or plot. Maybe with a few explosions to keep my interest. Plot and story is most important for me in a movie.

3-D is the most cunning strategy ever incorporated by the cinema industry. Think about it, you cannot possibly pirate and watch a newly-released film (or ANY film for that matter) at home in full 3-D. So, the only option you have is to go to the cinema, where you are charged extra to see a film in 3-D format.
If I am wrong, and in fact you CAN download films in 3-D, then somebody please correct me

Yes..i do think its one of their strategies for bringing people to cinemas.
I can never think of seeing avatar in my personal screen..it owes the big screen and sound effects..
i personally have nothing against the strategy though, i catch almost all movies in cinemas..
I am from India and here movie industry is fighting to exist...piracy is tearing at the industry...movie houses are closing dud to losses in the rural areas..But if they can bring the pirate movie seeing people in to cinemas due to special effects, it will be good for Movie industry and movie buffs like me can enjoy more and more great movies..so bring em on i say..

I think all the 3D movies and such are ways to make us spend more money to watch movies because they charge extra for the glasses that they hope you give back so then can turn around and charge someone else for. I think it is a bit of a scam as most of the 3D movies are not even worth it. Although I did see Avatar at an IMax theater and that was pretty cool.
