I constantly keep, a two inch pig's haired paint brush beside my CRT, just for such occasions. I'm a smoker, and probably don't need to tell you, that naturally ashes do drop from time to time when I'm typing. This little brush comes in handy, as you can well imagine, and I'd recommend every person that DOES smoke, to keep one close by. So, in answer to your question...I clean my keyboard quite often. As for my screen...I also have a feather duster handy atop the computer desk.
The screen gets good going over about once a month with a quick spray of lens cleaner, while at the same time, its housing, the PC tower and keyboard gets gently wiped down with a damp J-Cloth.
You'd be surprised (or maybe not) how much dust and smoke film can build up in such a short time. I was at first, but now consider it a must to clean ALL parts, every so often, or whenever necessary.

It IS a good idea!
The brush I'm sure wouldn't take up too much room.
The one I have, has a wooden handle, a 2 inch brush end, & is only 8 inches long.
Very small, really. I bought mine at the local dollar store; cheap, but definitely does the job.

Now that you mention it the pig's hair paint brush sounds like a really good idea! (even though I am not a smoker) The only thing is that I am so mobile I cringe at even thinking about putting one more thing in that bag!

I'm doing it once a month too. I'm using a damp cotton pad to clean it and I'm afraid to have the letters of my keys erased. Any suggestions for better cleaning? What are you using? The color of my keyboard is white and it's very prone to getting dirty. It sucks and I'm just glad I'm the only one using my laptop. Haha.

Yeah, I wouldn't want to use it all the time! Just because I'm not too sure about it.

Hi, macdingolinger. I usually will clean it when it gets really messy. And that can be once a week. I have used the Pledge wipes to clean the computer screen and keyboard off. It does look more shiner and brand new. It also feels differently though. And it looks 100% better once it is all cleaned up! I can see the computer screen more clearer now. Cleaning off the computer does great wonders!

I've been cleaning mine a little more regularly. I like it, I am ashamed of how bad I let it get before I did something about it!

That's a great idea too! Maybe we should invest in a skin and that would keep the keyboards clean!

You should be able to carefully pull it off. Then you can clean out from under it and pop it back on. Most keys will come off easily, but just pop it off real carefully!

Depends on what we are talking about. I usually just clean my screen (laptop or PC) whenever it looks dirty or dusty or anything like that.
But the keyboard is a whole different thing. I haven't cleaned my laptop keyboard mainly because I'm kinda scared of taking off all the buttons.. I might break something by mistake and I don't really wanna do that.
As for my PC. Well, I don't really use it that often anymore so I can't really say that I would feel like cleaning it. Its actually pretty dirty but I'm simply too lazy to clean it..

I hear ya on the keyboard on the laptop. I got something under my period button. It drove me crazy until I finally took it off. I'm always afraid I'll break something like that too!

I usually clean it once a week when I'm dusting and cleaning my house. The keyboard collects so much dust in such a little bit of time.

It does get dusty fast! I don't know where it all comes from. Especially since mine is packed up for the night time and only open in the day! I think I will start dusting it every day!

Boy that's for sure! At least my laptop only has my germs on it! I am thinking about a wet wipe that kills germs like maybe every morning when I set it all up or something!

You are more than welcome! However, it's only because I just cleaned mine for the first time in like a year!! It just felt so good for it to be clean!

Well the laptop keyboard is that which should be kept very clean. Because once dust accumulates on the keyboard then it is very hard to get rid of it. We can't reach the cleaning tool under the laptop keyboard. The only possible way to clean that is by opening the laptop or using mini vacuum cleaner. So in my view the laptop keyboard should be cleaned everyday.

You make a good point. I know there has been a time or two that I got a chunk of something under a key and it wouldn't work right until I took it off and got the stuff out. I don't eat granola at the keyboard anymore!
