These are my most favorite cookies in the entire world and you can only get them once a year. I wish they were available all the time, but that might defeat the entire purpose of them.
I was wondering what flavors are offered out there and what your favorite flavor of them are? Do you order them or pick them up at a cookie booth? How many boxes do you usually get?
For me is is Caramel Delites (also known as Samoas in some areas) Because I love the combination of coconut, caramel and chocolate. They are my favorite sinful indulgence and my husband and I typically get lots of boxes of these every year.

Girl Scout cookies are the best. I have to order several boxes each year becuase so many of my friends have girls in scouting programs. I usually order thin mints, tag alongs and samoas. This year I am going to try their new Thank You Berry Much cookie also. And after I order all of these I will probably pick up a box or two at the grocery store stand also. I feel so bad when those sweet little faces look up at you and ask "Would you like to buy a box of cookies?" and I say "No." Darn those girl scouts, why do they have to be so cute.

As crazy as it is to say, I have a certain weakness for the cookie booths as well even though my own daughter is a Girl Scout. I can't wait for them to come in because I'm craving them already.

This is really scary, dorannmwin . . . I was thinking about Girl Scout cookies just the other day! (Great minds think alike - ha ha). I haven't bought those expensive (but tasty) little boxes of cookies in years. What flavors still exist? I used to love the lemon sandwich ones . . . I would die for them. They used to have these peanut butter ones covered with chocolate - it was almost like a Reese's cookie. I used to order them from friends when I was in school (I was never in Girl Scouts) - otherwise as an adult I would get them from some girls that would sell them in front of the grocery store. I don't know that I'll buy them because a box would be gone in one sitting . . . hmmmm, but I suppose I can just check to see if that have my lemon ones still - hee hee.

That is all that we have in our region. For as long as I can remember we've always only had seven varieties here.

I know that what flavors are available depend on the bakery that provides the cookies. We are with ABC Bakery and the flavors that we have this year are Caramel Delites, Peanut Butter Patties, Thin Mints, Shortbread, Thanks-A-Lot (shortbread with chocolate on bottom), Peanut Butter Sandwich and Lemonade.

Just curious, are those the only flavors (or the number of flavors anyway?). When I was a kid, I recall my friend had a chart of many different girl scout cookie flavors and I thought there was a wayyyyy bigger list. Oh, but the ones you mentioned sound really delish!

Lets see there are Carmel deLites, Peanut butter patty's, peanut butter sandwich, shortbread, daisy-go-round, lemonaide, thanks-a-lot & mint are the varities we are selling in our region.
Typically we usually buy carmel delites, mint & peanut butter patties in our house.
We usually can only afford one box of each. I'd like to top last years #'s we did but not many people are working @ hubby's work right now, everyone is laid off til more work comes along *sigh*

Those first few days are crutial. I know our troop is one of the biggest in our city so that's alot of girls. Eh.... all we can do is try. Thankfully they don't work like the boy scouts do.... you don't earn enough selling TOO BAD!

That is a good thing for the Girls. My daughter's troop is actually funded mostly by grants as part of an outreach program, so it isn't quite as important for them to raise the money, but it definitely goes for them to be able to have extra goodies and such.

I was also hoping that Kathryn and I would be able to top what she sold last year, but she has been sick and didn't get her order form early so we missed out on the first few days of sales.

There are some new flavors of Girl Scout Cookies available this year, such as Dulce de Leche, which contains little chips of caramel pieces. There are also cookies which contain little pieces of cranberry in them. I've tried them both. They are so delicious.

I don't think that we had anything like that that were available for us this year, but I can tell you that they both sound like they would be delicious and absolutely addicting.

Although I love all the different kinds of Girl Scout cookies, I would have to say that my most favorite are their sugar free cookies.

I don't think that we have any that are truly sugar free in our region, the closest that we've got is shortbread.

Ah!!! Thanks for the reminder that it that special time of the year!! We love Girl Scout Cookies too!
Hubby loves the thin mints and must have at least 3 boxes and my daughter is a fan of the shortbread ones and I'm like you, Samoas all the way!
We each have our favorite tho we do share. I'll happily trade a Samoa for a shortbread but not a thin mint! They are almost like money in our house, since we barter and trade em. I will have to check to see which lucky little girl will get our order this year!
I am terrible about limiting my Samoas consumption so I gave up and just enjoy em and know that it's a once a year thing! Cause just 1 is never enough! I love anything with Coconut but can't cook with it since hubby is allergic so this is a true decadent delight for me!

That is funny that you all use them like money in your house. We've never gone to that extent, we just all eat off of whatever box is open at the given time and only allow one box to be open at a time.

I know it may sound abit odd but it's how we started teaching our little girl about responsibilty and the value of money, we started when she was only three. She's in middle school now and really is great with money so I guess it wasn't such a crazy idea after all!
She kinda started it by herself since she wanted a Samoa and they are really sugary so I was trying to limit her sugar intake so that's why we got her the shortbread ones which she loves to this day. She asked if she cleaned up her toys from the living room, could she have a Samoas...so that's how it started.
I can't stand mint cookies and hubby can't eat coconut so there's no sharing options there! Found a local troop and will be placing an order this week so you did lots of good with this discussion. You reminded us all of how yummy they are and helped the Girl Scouts raise some money. Be Well!!

I'm happy that I was able to do some good with this discussion. I've always been a huge supporter of the Girl Scouts of America throughout my life. I was a chid member of Girl Scouts from 1985-1997 and this year marks the second year that I have been an adult member with my daughter in Girl Scouts.

hi dorannmwin I also love those darned Girl Scout Cookies but heck they will not come in here at Gold Crest and sell them. Boy would they ever get some orders .he he. My favorites are the Samoas and the thin mints, they are both so yummy, and we always both several boxes when we had our own apartment.

Too bad our family is so far away from you and Gold Crest because if we weren't, I'd make a special effort to bring my daughter over there to take orders from you and the other residents. I imagine a Girl Scout would be able to collect a ton of orders from the effort.

Oh, you're making me wish that I lived in America just so that I could taste some girl scout cookies. From what you describe they sound really lovely, I've never heard of the kind of cookies that you and the other people who have replied are describing, but they sound good.
I'm interested in how the whole cookie sale thing works. From this discussion it seems as though if you're a girl scout you get these cookies to sell every year. I'm guessing this is to raise money for charity, but which one? And does everyone raise money for the same charity or does each scout troop decide on the charity? Do they sell door to door? And who makes the cookies?? Is it a common thing for everyone to buy these cookies?
I'm keen to learn more where cookies are involved!

Girl Scouts of America is a nonprofit so the annual cookie sales are their biggest fundraiser. The money that is raised by the sales of the cookies benefits every level of Girl Scouts all the way from the national level down to the individual troop themselves. Our troop makes $.50 per box to help the girls to have more opportunities in their lives.
They do a combination of door to door type of sales and they also set up cookie booths after the cookies have come in that they do at local grocery stores.
As far as if it is a common thing for everyone to buy the cookies, I don't think that everyone does, but it is awfully difficult to say no to the innocent little girls.

Thin mints have always been my favorite, ever since I was a Girl Scout selling them myself! I have a special way of eating them that makes them melt in my mouth, mmm! I haven't been visited by any Girl Scouts this year selling cookies, so I may have to find some myself. I've heard you can now order online or by phone, in case you don't have a troop in your area.

I have seen that you are able to order them online or through the telephone as well but I haven't really looked into these options. I really don't have to since I have a Girl Scout in my home.

Yummy! I miss those days when my kiddos sold them. The mint chocolate and the peanut butter and chocolate were my two favorites...especially the mint!

What is funny is that I used to not be able to stand the Thin Mints, but now that I am older, they are one of the ones that I absolutely have to buy every year.

Great choices. I really like them all except for the Lemonaide ones they are just too sweet for my taste. If they were to go back to the old Lemon Pastry Creme cookies though, I really would love them all.

My favourite cookies are ginger snaps. I actually haven't seen girl scouts up here by us for a long time. My grandma used to get girl scout cookies by her but I haven't seen girl scouts up by me. My favourite girl scout cookies are the mint ones. I haven't had them in a really long time.

My favorite way to eat the mint cookies is with ice cream. I can't exactly explain it, but they are yummy like that.

I love Girl Scout Cookies. My favorites are also the Samoas as well as the Thin Mints. I love their Tagalongs as well (the chocolate peanut butter ones). I but four boxes at the booths since nobdoy I know sells Girl Scout Cookies. I am trying to find out how much they will be so I can start planning.

I'm not sure if the price is the same everywhere, but this year in our Girl Scout Council they are $3.50 a box, so for us it is no change from last year but I think I have heard that some places might be selling them for $4.00 a box.

The are rather expensive these days. I always order more than a couple of boxes though for the simple fact that if I don't order a ton of them, I am out of luck because my wonderful husband will sit down and eat an entire box in a single sitting.

I too love Girl Scout cookies. My favorite like you is the caramel delights. We have a few little girls in my family that sell them so I usually end up with at least 6 boxes. I also love the lemon cookies they have. I am not a big fan of thin mints but my partner and daughter are.

I used to like the lemon cookies that they had a long time ago when I was a little girl, but I'm not so fond of the newer lemon cookies because I think they just taste too sweet. Thank you for sharing.
