“The Central Plateau, including the region of Thomonde, the plain of the Cul-de-Sac and the bay of Port-au-Prince are full of hydrocarbons,”he said adding that “the oil reserves of Haiti are more important than those of Venezuela.” “An Olympic pool compared to a glass of water; that is the comparison to illustrate the importance of Haitian oil compared with those of Venezuela,” he explains. http://www.prisonplanet.com/are-we-in-haiti-because-of-oil.html About 20,000 U.S. troops are expected to support relief efforts in Haiti by next week in addition to the 13,000 American military personnel already there, according to Pentagon spokesman John Kruzel."http://www.therealitycheck.org/?p=10657 SO there might be oil in Haiti and we're going to have 33,000 troops there soon. Where are we getting these troops from? I thought our military was worn too thin as it is now with being in Iraq and sending more to Afghanistan. Just call me suspious, I guess. But it makes me wonder. What do you think?

I think the US is putting troops in there because those people need help and no one else ever steps up to the plate.

I have seen these rumors, even rumors that the head of the oil reserves in Venezuela originates in Haiti but I can find no reliable reference source that gives any indication of oil in Haiti. The World Fact Book states Haiti has 0 Proved Reserves of oil. It states that "Proved reserves are those quantities of petroleum which, by analysis of geological and engineering data, can be estimated with a high degree of confidence to be commercially recoverable from a given date forward, from known reservoirs and under current economic conditions." Here's the link: https://www.cia.gov/library/publications/the-world-factbook/geos/ha.html If Haiti had oil, someone would have been there long ago and whether it was the US or some other government or some oil corporation, it would definitely have changed the entire economic outlook. Unfortunately for Haiti, they don't seem to have any oil. The US is not the only country that has sent troops to Haiti. Canada has also, for instance. We send the military because its the trained, equipped resource that the government can mobilize in times of emergency.

There actually is going to be a need for security companies during the rebuilding in Haiti. Contractors will be going in with a lot of equipment, material and personnel. They need to rebuild from the infrastructure on up...clearing away the rubble and rebuilding roads, bridges, hospitals...re-establishing electrical and water service...everything. My husband actually may be going there with his brother's land development company and securing their base location is one of the items on the list.

Oh yeah, right.... that warmongering 0bama is there for the oil.... and he sent Bush and Clinton to oversee the operation. I don't put much faith in things from Prison Planet... they claim that Bush was behind 9-11... I'm surprised they didn't have him flying all of those planes at the same time. Haiti had a bad earthquake... we are there to help. End of story.

I totally agree, That should be the end of the story on the idea of Oil.

Dude, there's no oil there, or at least not enough oil to be worth anyone's time. We've got oil companies drilling in a crap country like Nigeria on the other side of the planet so there's no way we'd ignore a viable source of oil that close to our own land.

So thats why they're trying to date our prime Minister then? We do have oil somewhere way up north where the sun shines all day long or not at all.

to be honest piasabird if there was that much oil there i suspect either a) haiti would not be so poor or b)the states would have been in and taken it ages ago.

If there was really that much oil down there it would have already changed it name to the MOBILITI. The US oil companies would have been down there decades ago. However, with the current technologies with drilling, who is to say that we aren't already tapping that oil from our rigs? Wouldn't surprise me one bit.

It is an absolute disgrace to imply anything about oil here. The US have done a brilliant job so far with aid and raising money for the cause. I hope you don't believe it yourself.

Oh no dont tell me there could be hidden motives in all those symphatetic gestures? I think the most important now in Haiti is to help those people recover from their bad experiences with nature and also that they will have better lives. Not to mention the peace they need in their country. Lets stop extracting oil from the earth, Mother Nature is crying already and begging ..enough,enough.

hm this is certainly very intereseting to think about it would certainly explain the overwhelming interest of the U.S. government sending so many troops to such a small place. I mean it's true I was in the military up until in feb when i was medically discharged and we couldn't ship our boys fast enough to iraq and afghanistan and korea and now it's really weird where the government is going to get 33,000 troops especially when we activated so many reserve and national guard units to iraq and afghanistan.
