Does your chihuahua get a suntan on his or her belly?

My chihuahua Rosie can't get enough of the sun in the summertime. She'd be out in it endlessly if I would let her, laying on her back, belly aimed at the sun. She'll occassionally head for the shade for a few minutes, then it's right back out again. I have to keep an eye on her and make her come in every so often. Her belly actually gets tanned, and then it fades during the winter. Just wondering if you other chihuahua lovers have the same experience.

That sounds so cute! I wish I could see Rosie do that. I have a dog named Sherlock who is 3/4 Chihuahua and 1/4 Corgi. He's a little fellow - he is three years old and weighs seven pounds. He loves the sun. But he doesn't turn on his tummy when he is outside. But come to think of it, I did have a Chihuahua more than fifteen years ago who would lie on his back and sun bathe outside. It's been so long since I thought of that.

Hi AmbiePam. My Rosie is around 5 years old and weighs about 11 pounds. There must be something to it then, if your Sherlock enjoys the sun and your previous dog loved to sun bathe too. The breed originated in Mexico, and I'm sure is well adapted to the heat. My other dog Abby is a cocker spaniel and only spends enough time outside to do her business, and maybe 5 minutes to snoop around and then she wants to come back inside to the creature comforts. Dogs are so different. Thanks for your comments

I would have four dogs if I could. Four dogs is the legal amount of dogs one can own in my city. If I had a yard I would defnitely give Sherlock brothers and sisters. lol But I'm in an apartment, and there is only room for one dog. I'm just grateful for my little Sherlock.
