Wikipedia says: "A press release, news release, media release, or press statement is a written or recorded communication directed at members of the news media for the purpose of announcing something claimed as having news value. Typically, they are mailed, faxed, or e-mailed to assignment editors at newspapers, magazines, radio stations, television stations, and/or television networks. Commercial press-release distribution services are also used to distribute them."
In this case you're using a distribution site to get people to read what you have to say. You could use it to promote your referral link. It costs money though but there is a great trick from Daniel Tan explained in his "The Press Release Cash Cow
How I Made $7,133 From Press Release Alone!"

I don't like it either, cause it's really hard to get refs anywhere, but rules are the rules...I guess.
