I don't usually watch the news because it is so bad, but today I happened to catch a bit of the local news. Apparently one of our state senators here in Utah said and I quote "Wolves have no place in Utah and if they come here I'm going to have them killed" WHAT!!! Wolves are an endangered species, he can't do that can he? Apparently he's trying to get a law passed saying he can. Even if he has to go threw a long court battle to get it passed. I am so furious about this I wish there was something I could do to stop this jerk.

I do have a question for you. Have you ever run across a hungry wolf in the wild?? How about a pack of hungry wolves??? You better be armed and then might not be safe. This is the real reason wolves got on the endangered species list. When Americans first started migrating west, this was a big problem. It could become a big one again. How could you tell people my child was eaten by a wolf?

A child is just as much at risk as being attacked by a violent or aggressive dog, which a lot of people have, because they train them as watch dogs, fight dogs, and generally just treat the dog mean and thus the dog becomes mean. Both of these dangers are man made I just want to point out, the angry dog is man made because some people beat them down because they can or think thats a dog's place, and hungry wolves are also our fault because we took over their territories, they were here first and they act on natural instinct, where we as a more intelligent species, are able to distinguish right from wrong. I understand your point, and this isn't an attack or confrontational at all, it just made me think :) and you are right that that is a danger, but there is also another side to the story.

Man is to be blamed for the behaviour of animals. We have usurped their land and man has no love for animals. They don't know how to care for them. They do not show any kindness to them. They have no knowledge that animals help maintain the ecological balance. All this global warming that we hear of you is all part of man made blunders. The forests are gone. Where will the poor animals go? Dogs behave the way you do because they are treated badly. I have a pet in my house and I know what role it plays in my life. She destresses me.

Find me one unprovoked wolf attack in the last three or four hundred years. Then we can talk about how dangrous a wolf is. wolves do NOT hunt humans. We are not their prey, rather they prefer elk deer or caribou. They would rather run from a buman than attack. Also The Native Ameericans lived side by side with the wolves and other wild animlas. The Wolf was an important part of thier culture infact. So theere you go wolves and humans can co-exsit.

hi kittenskysong yes i am too as they are endangered. i think he is probably talking for the farmers in Utah who have livestock 'that is jeopardized by wolves at times. the farmers mostly want to kill the wolves but I think thats destroying the balance of nature. We dont want that to happen as nature is there for us all, a God given benefit. no killing wolves is so wrong, so very wrong.

Hi Hatley. Don't take this the wrong way but do you realize how much a steer or a sheep is worth? Farmers invest in their livestock...buying them, feeding them...and they have every right to protect their investment from predators. If a new predator is migrating into the state that threatens the livestock of the farmers who live there, it should be eradicated or driven away.

That is awful! I hope his law will not pass, and in fact, since wolves are an endangered species, I don't see how it could pass. It would appear that "some" senators have no place, nor business, being in congress! Karen

Did you really mean "wolves"? It is true that it is an endangered species and his chance to pass that law is so slight. Governments try to preserve those kind of animals. I think the senator's law has a complex description. The animal can only be killed if it is found strolling in the city or harassing people in there. I think they will not be killed if they are only in the forest.

Hey Kittenskysong, That's horrible, wolves are one of my favorite animals and I remember a long time ago one of the girls I worked with had moved to where I lived in Florida from Alaska and she had two wolves as pets, she had to sign all kinds of things in order to keep them, I guess it was in case they attacked someone or something.. that was the reasoning anyway, I think we should be helping them t stay alive and not trying to kill them off.. THAT is why we have endangered species lists.. so people know NOT to destroy them. I would create a petition even do so online and get as many signatures as possible and fight that Senator to the Supreme Court if you have to.. Good luck and save those wolves...

You know, i thought that any senator, worth his salt, is supposed to protect any human and animal. I think there is something serioulsy wrong with this guy. If i can make a suggestion, Make him a deal, for every wolve he kills, you get to hit him any place. If you catch my drift on this one, he will stop this idiotic madness of his, after the first blow. Really, i wonder where he was brought up. Surely not from this planet.

That is so wrong, wolves are endangered and anyone that makes such a stupid statement as that is just so wrong in my book, he is a jerk. You know the funny thing about people who complain about how wolves, or other predators, are interfering with their lives, its because of US, we as humans created it, its our fault, not the animals that is just following instinct. We are overpopulated, and have taken over their territories and built suburbs where they lived. That senator is ignorant. Mostly his choice of words, make him sound very stupid.

Come to Utah from where and why are they coming? Who/what are they endangering by being in your state? Yes, wolves are endangered but there are thousands of acres of protected land all across this country where they can live in peace. I live in south central Florida where we have wild animals...wolves and big cats...who sometimes choose to leave the safety of the 200+ thousand acres of sugarcane fields, citrus groves and the vastness of the Everglades to hunt in our neighborhoods or threaten the cattle on the ranches nearby. There was a wolf in the road in front of my house several months ago, sniffing the air, and fortunately my pets were inside and he left. Should I feel bad if he had continued to hang around and was shot? Half a million acres isn't enough for him? Our dogs, cats and children might not be endangered but protecting them from wild predators is our right.
