Quality of a particular cell phone.

I have bought a Nokia 5800 Xpressmusic touch phone one year back. I have never faced any touch screen problem. One month back ,my friend bought a similar mobile phone and paid two-third the amount i paid one year back. He is having some problem in the touch screen , just using the phone for only one month.
Do you think the manufacturer reduces the quality of a cell phone when the price of the phone is reduced in the market?
