Scented candles ---- are these just for decoration?

One can find lots of scented candles in our department stores. They come in all sizes, colors, designs and scents.
Do you have scented candles for sale in your departments stores/malls, too? These are beautiful specially-made candles and are expensive. Do you use them just for decoration in your homes or you use and light them?

I use scented candles to light my room at night and also for the nice scent. I use vanilla scent. In july my electric was shut off because the post office made a mistake and I never got my bills. I bought two expensive scented candles that were in nicely decorated jars. I'm glad I did because the electric wasn't cut back on until two days later.

Post office workers can be terrible at times. I heard news about loss of money and valuables sent through the Post office. Mail pilferage happens.

Hi RobtheRock,
The scented candles saved you from "darkness", lol. They really served their purpose. Plus, they relax your senses because of the good smell they give. They aren't just for decorations after all.
I hope the post office will not make the same mistake again.

Speaking of the Post Office, that was the second time in a few months that they messed up my mail. I know it was my fault for using a P.O. box to get my mail. Last December a clerk had placed the wrong box number on my receipt. It wasn't until March that they started sending my mail back "because I didn't pay for the box". I had the problem corrected but sure enough, in July I found out my mail was again being returned to senders. That's when the electric was shut off. I had never received my electric bills. I never found out why they made the second mistake. I'm glad I had some candles and battery powered flashlights and lights around the house. Yes, I agree, the candles do relax the senses. I just got jasmine scented candles because they're supposed to have some health benefits.

I love scented candles not primarily for the decoration purposes. I light scented candles before I go to sleep or inside the bathroom for relaxation. It's good also when you are just alone and doing meditation.

That is true. We really need to be careful because it could happen. Although we pray that they don't.
It would be funny having to smell burnt air from scented candles.

Hi Ladyslipper,
That's true. The good smell emitted from the lighted candles somewhat calms us. We feel relaxed and easy with the nice smell. We just need to be extra careful in handling lighted candles. They can be knocked over for any reason and this might be a cause of fire.

Hahaha! You made me laugh there. You know why? It's because you reminded me that I could be so careless sometimes. That is the reason I really have to be extra careful whenever lighting my candles. I have to remind myself that I can't be careless or else everything I worked hard for will be gone. :(

I light my scented candles especially when we have guests over, so it serves not only as a decoration but also as a fragrance to the room. I have a lot of scented candles and most of them are gifts. Its been years since I have received scented candles as gifts or bought any since my stock of scented candles can last a month even if lighted everyday.

Hi Anne25penn,
That is wonderful to have such a large supply of scented candles. Scented candles are very good gift items and I usually receive them on special occasions. I also choose to give some friends scented candles when I notice their fancy for them.
It would be very good to light them especially with guests coming over to the house. It sets a good environment with the good smell that radiates from burning them. Thanks for sharing.

Oh yes, there are scented candles available almost everywhere that you look. We love scented candles in our family. My personal favorite scent is called Mango Peach Salsa and I love to burn candles of that scent. One of the things that I really like about scented candles is that they will make the entire house smell good but there is no where in the house where the scent is overpowering, even when you are in the same room as the scent is coming from.

With scented candles, it is a real nice feeling with the good smell around the house. Thanks!

Hi Dorannmwin,
I had time to go to the houseware section of the department store as I was looking for an inexpensive chair for use while I go online. I tried to browse on the scented candles on display. There were so many scents there but I did not remember the scent that you mentioned here. I am interested in Mango Peach Salsa and will try to check the next time I visit there.

Hi Quikstar,
They surely serve various purposes. With their good scent and beautiful designs, they may be used as home decors. They are also good to "freshen" the room or the house with their good smell. They also relax our senses.

Hi Abhii,
It may not be everyday that we use them. Of course, some things need to be done when we feel like doing it --- same thing with burning candles.
Scented candles often stand in my special corners in the house, too. Most of them are so beautiful to burn and I rather keep them as decorations especially if they are gifts from very special people and friends. Thanks for sharing.

Hello Money,
Candles can be very expensive for the highly decorated ones and yes most of mine are used for decoration purposes only. I do use scented candles all the time it's just that I burn the cheaper ones and use the expensive ones for the decorating. You can find specialty decorated ones after a holiday for a lot cheaper. Also check out thrift stores and yard sales, I have been able to find some really nice ones.

Hi Beaniefanatic,
For practical and economical reasons, I do that, too. There are not-so-very-expensive scented candles available in the markets, too. And these are the ones that I light. I keep the beautifully-designed expensive scented candles for decors. Most of them are gifts from friends, so the more reason to keep them.
Thanks for sharing.

I have some scented candles and light them up too from time to time. I would like to light them more often but I really don't think about it. I think the ones that get lit up the most are the ones in my bathroom. Also, I have small children so I worry that they will knock them over if I leave them in another room or something.
I notice too that they are cheaper after Christmas and I would never buy them if they are not on sale. That would just be a waste of money.
Have a great day and happy myLotting!!!

Hi Schulzie,
It is good to have these nice scents around the house when you light them up. I only light the cheaper and smaller ones, though. The beautiful and bigger ones are kept as decoration. It is expensive here. I wait to buy when the stores have their "sale" day. I agree, it would be a waste of money to buy them on their regular expensive price. We need to be practical and prioritize our purchases. Thanks for sharing!

I don't buy candles. Too many house fires have been started by candles. It isn't even necessary to have candles on hand any more in case the power goes out, as we have sufficient battery operated lights.

Hi Bellis,
Yes, with the advent of all useful gadgets, candles may no longer be much needed in case of power outages. But I admit we still do here even if we had those battery operated and chargeable lights.
I make sure though that lighted candles are handled carefully. When I light candles, I let it stand inside a big empty can (of milk, most of the time) and I feel confident that when it is knocked down for any reason, it stays inside the can and does not burn anything else.
This is very useful when you need to sleep with the candles still lighted (in cases of longer power failures).

Nope, i heard they have a lot of purposes one is for aromatherapy and in many massage relaxing center that use scented candles to make the room filled with relaxing smell which captivates their clients to stay for too long. it also set the mood and have a great influence to the thinking of the mind. The smell could set a person mood in any types being happy, gentle, subtle, submissive or with a hint of romance. While in world of the herbalist they also uses it and not only that even in the local spiritual adviser or those in Chinese fengshui they have their uses too which employ myticism.

Hi Neelia,
Aromatherapy, too. Good to mention it here. Good to know they use scented candles for this purpose, too.
I know for a fact of a networking company whose business is "scents". Their product is used for lots of purposes. But it does not use candles and, instead, it was some kind of a lamp whose oil was scented. There are different scents you can choose from depending on what your "motives" will be. It is true, there are scents that sets the mood for romance, others to "entice" more business or for peace, happiness, success, etc. It has been advocating the Clean Air Act Law because it is said to be filtering the air that we breathe inside our homes and cars.

Hi Jugsjugs,
That is nice of them. They really know that you use them that is why friends buy them for you. It is always a great feeling to know that people appreciate what you buy from them. I am sure they are happy that you like what they are doing.
I am sure you have the most good smelling house in the neighborhood. With the candles in different rooms, they would already be smelled even without lighting them up.

Hi Danitykane,
They are expensive in our country especially the very thick and big ones. They come out in very beautiful designs that make us hesitate to light them up. Lots of other responders also share the same thing with you. They use it not just for decoration purposes but for the relaxation of senses as well. Thanks for sharing.

That's great! You really have them every time. They surely are good decoration pieces not to mention the scents and the good smell that they give out once lighted up. We need to choose the scents though. Some come out very strong to our sense of smelling.

I like scented candles, especially the candles with good design. In the departments in our city, there are also many special scented candles. Some are made like the flowers. I used to read something before I sleep. It's very enjoyable, if some sweet scent is around you. Moreover, I think it is more romantic if you light the scented candle when you have dinner with your lover.

These scented candles come in various designs and forms. They are shaped like flowers, cartoon characters, animals, human figure, etc. They come in very nice colors, too.

Hi Gabs,
It is good to hear different people's opinions on things. Thanks.
Yes, their scents make and keep the room smelling good and fresh. Even if these are not lighted, you can really tell their presence, lol. For power outages, we usually use the cheap and ordinary unscented candles. We also light the white ordinary ones when we pray. The very special, expensive, big and uniquely-designed scented candles usually stand as decorations either in shelves or as centerpieces on tables.

We have many stores that sell scented candles. I would not buy a scented candle if I was not going to light it. I have two different scented candles in my bedroom right now. I will be lighting one tonight. I love the way they make a room smell and they are so pretty to look at. I just love candles. I use to make scented gel candles that people brought from me but wouldn't light because they were so pretty. I have to get back into making them again it was so much fun.

Hi Lelin,
Oh, wow, you make scented candles! I envy you, hahaha. I have always wanted to try on this one. I love creating things and try to make it different to suit my personality. I have always loved doing crafts since I was in high school. I had school projects before that were never returned by my teacher because these were displayed in the principal's office.
Some scented candles I have are gifts for my birthday and for Christmas from friends. I keep those that are really really very nice and do not light them. I love their scents even if they stayed unlighted. They surely make very good home decorations.

Yes, I do notice lots of scented candles nowadays. I believe that it's not just for decoration, some people actually light it in their homes for a more welcoming and pleasant feeling to guests. It is also good for aromatherapy when we just need to relax. But I just use it for decorative purposes to be safe, that's why I also think it's okay to be placed in bathrooms.

Hi Mimi,
It is nice to know that some people really light these scented candles. I have noticed that most of my friends don't. They might be aware how much they cost in our place, lol. And, maybe they find it a waste to light these beautifully-designed candles. Other candles are even shaped into different forms. Even without lighting them, the scents can still be enjoyed.

I have received candles which are beautifully designed and sweetly scented. Indeed, I would have wanted to keep them forever as decoration. But alas, when power shortage comes, I could not help but light them when there are no other ordinary candles to use. I am more of a practical person. I use what I need to use no matter what.

Hi Cutie18f,
Rather than being in the dark, might as well light those that are available, isn't it? That is surely a practical way of doing things. Or maybe, rather than running to the store to buy ordinary candles, might as well use them for the purpose. You have a good idea there.
Thanks for sharing!
