Do you remember toastie makers?

They used to be all the rage here back in the 1960s/70s, and then they just disappeared - probably with the advent of the microwave. I found my toastie maker at the back of a cupboard when I moved house, and in the recent cold snap, it came into its own when we wanted to have some hot snacks at lunchtime. Today we had cheese and ham toasties, and very tasty they were too. Have you ever used one? What fillings would you have?

Gosh yes. We still use one today. Our daughter is especially fond of a chicken and sweetcorn toastie although I prefer good old cheese and tomato. What we don't use is the steamer or juicer. They are now in the garage. Wonder if E Bay would like them?

So glad I'm not the only who still uses one. I'm sure your steamer and juicer would sell on ebay. I could look out for them. I don't have either.

Yes, I remember my toastie maker. It was great to have a fast snack with at times. The problems were always cleaning afterwards because we could not put the whole thing in water because of the electrical circuits inside. - Derek

You're right, Derek. I just have to clean mine with damp cloth. probably not very hygienic really.

That's a shame Tamara. I'm not sure you can get them now. Of course you can use a grill to make toasties, but it's not quite the same, is it?

I don't remember these, but I do remember toaster ovens, these were potable ovens on the small side. Very handy for small baking.
