I've always paired hot roast beef sandwiches with French onion soup. I like to dip the sandwich in the soup- it's a lot like a French dip sandwich like you might get at a restaurant, but in my opinion the onion soup has a much better flavor than the Au Jus that is usually served with French dip.

And this is just my opinion here, but I would eat a good ham sandwich with the both of them. Honey Ham, Hoffman's Super Sharp Cheese, and Miracle Whip. No better eating than that, and very versatile. IMHO, this ham sandwich can go with anything!

I'm making my homemade beef vegetable soup today. My husband and I especially like it on cold winter days, along with a mini cheeseburger. You can purchase the mini hamburgers in the freezer department at the grocery store or can make them yourself.
One pound of ground beef can make 12 mini burgers and I cook them in the microwave. Scoop the ground beef out with an ice cream scoop and flatten the patties out slightly on a plate, cover and cook them for 6-8 minutes in the microwave. Divide a slice of cheese into fourths and put a piece of cheese on a split dinner roll. Then put the mini burger on top of the cheese and cover with the top of the roll. I put them back in the microwave for a few seconds to melt the cheese and warm the roll. Now you have 12 mini cheeseburgers and you can freeze them and cook them whenever you like. They go great with soup or just as a snack. Give them a try.

We like all kinds of sandwiches but your post brought back a long lost memory for me. My ex-sister in law used to always serve peanut butter sandwiches whenever she made chili. For whatever reason she always thought they went together just like tomato soup and grilled cheese. I think a good roast beef sandwich would be good with french onion soup, or maybe even a reuben. Now I am getting hungry!

You could have a ham and cheese grilled or just
a regular ham sandwich. I like to have Quesidillas with
my soup it is a change from the regular sandwich and soup
routine. And I like to add lime to soups not French Onion soup
but soups like Minestrone and not Chicken Noodle soup but I will add
lime and hot sauce to my ramen noodle soup as well as chopped jalapenos
and onions. I really like to take two big flour tortillas and put them
on the comel until warm on both sides then add the shredded cheese and put
one tortilla on top of the other with cheese in between and oh of course
I like to put the chopped jalapenos between the tortilla and cheese and have this
with my soup. I know it is hard to get full on just soup alone. Hope this helps you and Have A Good Day!

I love the tomato soup & grilled cheese combo also. I think that a grilled swiss cheese sandwich would go great with french onion soup. We always had bean with bacon soup and my mother would pair it with a BLT. With minestrone, the first thing that comes to my mind is a whole wheat pita stuffed with cucumber, red onion, lettuce, tomato and hummus. You're making me hungry!
