Have you ever started a discussion in the general discussion section?

Did you know about it? I did not. I was just surfing through the sites paying attention to all the suggestions and details mylot provides in every step. When I clicked the new link to start a new discussion, I learned about the general discussion section. It was there at the end of the page. I have never scrolled down through the entire page. I just select my interest and then start a discussion. I thought this was a better discussion than the one I was looking to start in the movies section. That can wait.

Most of my discussions are started in the general discussion section. The reason is it was the first discussion I found. It is too hard to try to start a discussion in a topic of ones choice. This is a very hard to navigate site. The amount of work involved to generate one penny is unbelievable. In fact, I have given up on the money aspect of this site, and now only post because I enjoy the comments.

teamrose quality not quantity is the name of making money while having fun and enjoying mylotting. If you have a lot of interests already selected you should not have any problem posting to them. I dont think the amou nt of work necessary to earn is so bad, I make over a dollar a day most every day, you need to take a bit of time you will not make anything if you do not do the work, and if you bury your discussions in general you will get very few responses. I know, I learned that the hard way add interests to your profile and you will have a whole page open up for you to post your discussions, I bet you have not read the guidelines, its unbelievable to me that people come in here, post and dont make anything because they do not know what the hell they are doing. .read the guidelines you will be so glad as it will make posting discussions and everything else so much easier. you add as many interests to your profile as you like then when you post a discussion it opens up to give you a huge choice.

Hi teamrose, you should listen to Hatley. He is 100% right. Thank you Hatley for explaining it so nicely. Have a nice day both of you.

Thank your for your helpful advice. You are right, I have not read the guidelines. I bet a lot of other people have not read them either. Why, you ask? Because I have no idea how to find guidelines on this very difficult to navigate site. There is no tab labeled guidelines. It is not under discussions. Please share with me where I would find this elusive animal called guidelines? Thank you.

Hi elly, it is better to start discussions in the interests. That will help you to get more responses. And if you respond back to them, you will earn money. Do you get responses in your general discussions? I have never started one and from what others are saying, you hardly get any response in a general discussion.

When I first came to mylot it was all I knew about and as a result all my discussions for the first month was posted in the general area.It wasnt after I read someone's discussions that I realised about the interest areas and realise that was the reason my discussions werent getting many responses and started to post in the genaral area

hello sagnik! yes, when i am just starting here, most of my discussions are on general discussions...hehe because i am still not that aware on the interests sections and i find it easier there...and also i find it difficult to categorized my started discussions before...but no, i always start a discussion under a specific interest...

yeah, and when we are just starting here, we are like children, pre-schoolers who really are puzzled on what to do, and just starting to learn things and so we want to explore and experiment... but thanks to those helpful and kind mylotters who are always willing to help & guide us here...and they even serve as an inspirations to us... they are our mentors here.

Absolutely. I am trying to follow their footsteps. Sadly, they are very big and large shoes to fill in. I am not sure I will ever be able to. They are the best thing about mylot. Without them the site is lost. The new ones will have no idea of what to do and what not to do because I feel the FAQs and guidelines are not always very clear.

Hi ckyera, we have become reasonable and now choose our interests properly to start a new discussion. Our first steps in this site were pretty crazy and everybody did some crazy stuff, before they learned their way around.

No i did not know such a section existed, thank you for pointing that out :P and judging by your number of posts you must have been a member for quite a while. Maybe there are other secret areas to the site :P

General discussion should interest many here as it covers almost anything and everything. To be honest I have not seen this general discussion interest yet and like to have it added to my interest, so I won't have problems looking for the appropriate interest when I happen to be in a crossroad.

Yes, I did. In fact I used to post in that all the time. Then someone told me you earn more if you post in your interests. So I rarely post there anymore.

Well it is good for the topics that you just don't know where to put it. Other than that, post in your interests as much as possible.

I always find the proper interests. If there isn't one, it is better to create a new interest instead of putting it in the general discussion category.

sagnik43 no dont post in general as people rarely look there, if you are not sure where to post it people is always a sure bet as most interests can go into people, otherwise if you see the interest that fits your discussion post it there. general is just too general. No I do not use general as I have a host of interests so know where to post my discussions.

Hi Hatley, I have always found the interest where I want to start a discussion. There are so many of them to choose from. I never knew about the general discussion. I saw it in the FAQs but I never thought I would find it. But, then, I found it at last.

Hi Dawn, I have faced that kind of a problem. But you can always create an interest if you cannot find one. I think that is better than putting a discussion in the general section. Thank you for the response.

Hi, sagnik. Yes, I think that I have posted an discussion in this section. Being that it was at the end of the new discussion topics, I found it. I will probably just use this topic to post many discussions under when I can't find the topic that I want to post at. And if I have any general topics to discuss, I will also post under the general topics too.

I have actually and I think it was my very first discussion. I read somewhere that if we cant find the most appropriate interest to start our discussions in then it is advised that we should put it under general discussions. I did try looking for the most appropriate interest for that discussion but I just couldnt so I started it as a general one. I didnt know how tagging works back then so I just inputted all the tags that I could think of without using a comma. As a result, that discussion wasnt able to get views because it wasnt on any interest, and the tags that I put are pretty much useless. I didnt have any friends back then too, aside from that one referral that I made who seldom myLots. Thankfully, one day she did respond to that discussion of mine, it was the only one that had 0 responses. Now, over the years, it now has 2!

I soo know the feeling. I guess its just one of those silly things that we do as a new member and a way for us to be called a certified newbie on myLot. In a sense, those silly actions could be our rites of passage to announce ourselves in the myLotland.LOL I think most members have gone through that stage. So I guess we're not alone on this one.^_^

Hi Bj, We did some really strange things when we first got here. Well I created my first discussion in a very nice and elaborate way. 1. I went to the interests tab. (this was the right thing to do) 2. I added a lot of interests (again right) 3. I suddenly had the urge of creating a new interest(wrong move ) 4. I created an interest. 5. Then started a discussion in that interest. The interest and the discussion were created perfectly alright. Now the problem was that, I had no friend at that time and the discussion was in a interest which was brand new and void of any members. So, it got no response. After 9-10 months, a friend here felt pity for me and that discussion and posted a response, although that member did not know anything regarding the topic of discussion.

Yeah, it is like learning to walk once again. You stumble, you fall and then pick yourself up again and continue the process. It makes me smile now, thinking of those times, about a year ago, when I first joined this site.

yes I've done it because I do not know how to add the parts that already exist on myLot, and I know after a few months here. Even to get just very difficult to respond because the outside of the categories of discussion.

Hi May, it is indeed difficult to respond to something which does not come under the interests. Unless, it is started by a friend, that discussion is invisible.

I honestly didn't even know that there was a general discussion area, so that tells you that I have never started a discussion in that area. I think that when you are starting a discussion it is best to put it in an interest group that is fitting with your discussion if you expect to get the most responses for the discussion that you have started. I typically average over ten responses per discussion that I start since I always put them in an appropriate interest category.

Well, I start them in appropriate interest categories as well. I have never really felt the need to start a discussion in the general category. I also average more than 10 responses per discussion thanks to all you people. I love to start discussions and get responses.

When I first started here, I did a discussion or two in the general section. It was really because I wasn't sure as to what sections I should start one in. Now I always choose an interest.

Hi Jen, it seems that when you have not chosen any interest they give you the general discussion section. Unfortunately, I added the interests first after creating my account. So, when I started a discussion I did not get the general discussion section. It was down below and I did not see it.

...Hi there sagnik, I am glad I stopped by to respond to your discussion, because I just learned something brand new to me. First that there is a general discussion section, I had seen the name at the bottom of the page read it &movedon, I don't think there is any picture that goes with it so I didn't pay much or really any attention to it. Then the other poster said that you get less if you post under it, so two lessons for me in one shot. Thanks guys. Take care.

i used to make discussions there, but now im trying to do my discussions with more details, like selecting the interest and then i make the discussion. i could see the difference doing genereal discussions and making in "X" interest, and my conlusion is that has more effect doing discussions in an especific interest. have anice day!
