Are companies too obsessed with what people do on Facebook?

At the minute I havea huge bug bear because companies are becoming obsessed with what people are writing on facebook even if it has nothing to do with their work. To me facebook is a fun site where people can let off steam and have fun but when a company takes over your facebook are they taking it too far???
A company I work for has actually asked me to delete a status in case people linked it to them when I was actually on holiday and it had nothing to do with the company. They have also done training on using facebook to promote the company I work for.
Does this annoy anyone else or are companies justified?

I actually avoid having my work mate, or event worse, my boss in my facebook friendlist, although now i have a few of my workmate in my other facebook account, it is only that i really close personally. I don't want my office to know what i am doing in facebook, because most of the time, i always said something stupid like "so sleepy" or "so lazy" in my facebook status. Thanks.
