Hi, mylotters!
Do you have problems with depression? What exactly makes you feel depressed? And what's the best way to "kill" depression?
I think that once per year I'm in depression. I mean, serious depression. And it's about a month. My biggest depression was for about 6-7 months! I "killed" my depression by changing the place I live. This really helped me! My mind was refreshed and I was open for the world again. What's your way ?

Sometimes my major depression is caused by something tragic which is unavoidable , other times it just comes without a trigger or a source. Sometimes I'm capable of "killing" it and sometimes it just wouldn't die. Redecorating the room really helps, or surrounding myself with people who give me that sense of comfort and peace. Anything goes really, from eating foods ,to going to places, and taking medicines and supplements.

Doing things that make me happy. Listening to music. Getting out in nature. Looking at art. Going to a show. Making jokes. Writing. Traveling. Reading.

In 2005 I had a very severe depression. My doctor put me on antidepressants and suggested that I spend some time at a psychiatric clinic. I didn't like the idea at first, but it actually helped me a lot. I usually love travelling and my parents decided to give me a trip as a present. At first I didn't want to go and I didn't have energy plan the trip or pack my suitcase, but my parents and my ex-boyfriend helped me get things ready and and they insisted that I go on the trip. It worked! I refound my old passion for travelling and other countries, and I actually enjoyed the trip.

Well since I'm a bipolar, most of the time it's hard for me to deal with depression, especially if it's getting worse and I think about it all the time.. :(
I think it depends on the kind of person you are on battling depression because others prefer engaging to other activities like writing or sports to combat it. However, here are just some of the powerful ways that worked for me personally :) I hope it can also help you..
1. Read the Bible often- I know I should not recommend this especially when depression strikes at the moment, but I advise that you should read the Bible everyday, depressed or not, so that when depression comes, you'll be prepared with God's word. :( I don't know what your religion is, but as a believer it really worked for me.
2. I always stick to the FACT that "Depression is a sin".. - most people don't know this, but it's true that when we become depressed, we actually sin.. it's because God does not want us to walk under a dark cloud because there are a lot more blessings around us than problems. :) God desires us to be happy, so each time I become depressed I just think about God and the guilt of being depressed.
3. Challenge your brain to always look at the positive of every negative things - Optimism is not only a choice, rather I take it as an intellectual activity wherein I think about the good side of every negative situation. It enables me to think broadly and be happy at the same time. Since for me depression is a sin, depressing thoughts for me are words of the devil so as much as I can I always combat it with positive thoughts and God's word
4. I always surround myself with a few close circle of friends / my family .. I keep my relationships and treasure them so that when rough times come I can always have them. I'm one of those lucky people to have wonderful friends and family around me and I thank them for that. :D
----
I don't know but personally I believe killing depression isn't that hard. For me happiness doesn't have to be found somewhere because it should always be with us. It's a decision. It's a choice.. and most importantly, it's a FAITH of holding on to God's promise that we're all saved as long as He's with us :)

Yes, I have suffered from depression for the greater part of my life. How do you get rid of it? You tell me? I have tried a dozen different anti-depressants and mood stabilizers. The side effects sometimes are worse than the depression itself. How to you 'kill' it? They say exercise helps. But when you are in the throws of depression exercise is easier said than done.
