i just bough a new companion two weeks ago and thought of naming him "prince", it's my favorite name for a dog.
now that i think about it, i remember naming one of my dogs before "colonel". then we got him a wife and name her "secretary". after sometime they had 3 puppies and we named the "sergeant", "attorney" and "mayor". the three pups were given away for adoption while the parents are now dead :(
we also had a lot of japanese spitz before which were bred for sale and i remember naming some of them with disney characters.
But the weirdest name that i have ever given a dog was "arf-arf" :D

it was nice of you to name your dogs after the bears. :D and i would say, i love the names. good thing you haven't had named one after winnie the poo. lol..
the way i look at these names, they're like names for big dogs. what's weird about this would be if your dogs were mini pins or the toy type dogs. :D

Well Voden & Macha are 110+ pound wolf/malamutes. The Bears are Australian shepherds which won't be small either & right now kinda resemble some rolly polly bear cubs.
I'd never do a Winnie, Aurthur was a possibility but there were no boys.

I try to give my dogs names that are not to common. I always hated the idea that I would bring them to a park and other dogs would share their name and they get confused at other people yelling their name. I think this started when My aunt had a German Shepherd named MAX and I then met MANY other German Shepherds name MAX..I thought it was ridiculous that no one could be original with their naming.
So my dogs have been (or are)
Ka'vik (pronounced Ka-Veek) or Veeky for short.
This was taken from a book KAVIK the wolf dog.(also a movie) only they pronounced it kaa-vick.
and there are quite a few Husky and malamutes with this name as I as assume they read the book too. :-)
And T.K. (which was short for T'kira which I never called her.. But we never did meet another T.K.
Then I got Tesla. She was named after the band. which of course was named after Nikola Tesla who created radio and many other things. We have seen one other dog on DOGSTER.com with the name Tesla.
Then I got Tennyson.. I did not choose his name.. I dreamed it and the dog a week before I got him. I would have never chose this name but after a few days of debating over other names.. I figured that fate and that dream meant for him to be named Tennyson for a reason.. I don't think there are too many with this name either.
Then I next got a Collie puppy I first saw on the internet.. BRAEDYN after purchasing him I had about a week to mull over names.. and one day again I fell asleep and woke up with this name in my head and I think it fits him.
his AKC name is Braedyn Breeze's Summer Dreams (as his mother was Summer Winds and his Father was Sargeant Snow of Winter Dream.)
What was strange is about a year later we got a note from his sister and brother on dogster ... they were adopted before I even met him.. and His brother is named BADEN. I thought that was so freaky...
Here is Baden's Profile* http://www.dogster.com/dogs/398214 * you will see all of my dogs as his pup pals at the bottom of the page. :0)
Anyway, then I had puppies, or rather Tesla did with Braedyn.
I kept 2.. My girls,
and I named them K'Ehleyr (pronounced Kay-lar) and she was named after Worf's mate on Star Trek- the Next Generation.
And her sister is Trinity.. (which is probably the most common of all the names) I liked it in Matrix.. and she had 3 large Spots on her back when she was born so she was named Trinity just a few minutes after I cut her umbilical cord!

wow.. those were really unique names. and i would choose to add these names in my list, and name one of my dogs with these in the future. even their spelling, it's just, whoa, for you to give that much effort naming your dogs you must really love them and care for them. applause... :D

We haven't had any dogs with unusual names. My first dog was named Katie. Then we had a Bailey, a Shep, an Abby and right now we have Zeus. We've had kittens that the kids named. They were named Sponge Bob, Patrick and Squidward after the characters on the cartoon Spongebob square pants.
