Is there a rule that there should be a minimum number of words that a response should contain for it to be eligible for earnings? I have read so many advices here saying that it should have a minimum of 50 words but all responses do not need so many words. I just saw a response with just about 8 words but that response could not have been any more than just those 8 words!!

I don't think that there is a minimum number of words that need to be posted in order to make payment. From what I understand is that responses are paid based on content. So by elaborating on your response you will help you receive better payment.
And you are right about people only posting a few words or very short responses. I have seen this also and wonder why they even wasted their time doing so. But the ones that get me even better are those discussion that are started that do not response is really necessary.

allknowing you are paid for quality over quantity but in making responses, comments and discussions I have found that if you make all your postings at least four to six sentences long you do make a lot more money, I do not care a fig about how many words, but look at my response here. I am not going to short change myself and just say there must be enough to make sense and eight words usually do not make sense. I have two years of experience and do make over a dollar a day here but I try to do quality posts.

What do you think of this response: "This page should help you: http://www.mylot.com/nr/earnings_r.aspx" Will this get any earnings?

As the first response says its the quality that matters. Some people really try to fool the earning mechanism by giving super short responses as some forums allow that but in mylot all the responses should be worth reading or they just don't award any earning and I support that as I prefer "don't say anything if you can't say something good and worth the try". I do agree some responses just have to be short but they are exceptions.

There isn't any fix rules for minimum number of words or number of sentence to earn. What mylot want is a quality discussion and not quantity. But for me, I always write as much as I can think of about the topic, normally I will atleast have 5-6 sentences (or atleast 3 lines in this response box), which I think will contain sufficient information but not too long that make people cease to read it. I mean this is a discussion forum, not a yes or no questionaire, right? So anything that can be reply with only 1 sentence or a few words is not a quality topic to begin with.

I don't really know for sure if there is any specific minimum number of words you need to be able to earn some earnings for it. I read a lot of members say you need to make a nice long quality posting to be able to earn money. I thought it was based on characters or something. I don't know for sure.

Hi allknowing!
You've received many good and accurate responses here but I figured I'd chime in too.
There's no minimum word count, length, or number of sentences. If there was it would be written in the guidelines. What it DOES say in the guidelines is this:
"Please make sure you give your best effort to respond with quality responses. If you don’t know how to respond to a discussion, go on to the next one. Answers like 'I don’t know' or 'I don’t care' don’t help anyone and will be removed."
Padding a response just to add length is a waste of time. Adding sentences that don't contribute to the discussion doesn't add quality; it adds quantity. We're firm believers in quality over quantity but I think you already know that. :)
I also think it's fair to say - and others have said this here too - that if a discussion can be answered efficiently in only 8 words then it's highly likely that the discussion itself isn't much of a discussion at all.

Thanks Alice. But what about riddles, puzzles, quizzes, anagrams. We don't see them much here(my favourites) as they are just one or two worded responses and the one who gives the first right answer gets the BR tag but will anyone earn here?
Regarding your observation "- that if a discussion can be answered efficiently in only 8 words then it's highly likely that the discussion itself isn't much of a discussion at all." This discussion http://www.mylot.com/w/discussions/2236385.aspx?p=1#2_20669989 could have been responded in just a few words. Would you discourage or not pay for such discussions?

allknowing, I think you answered your own question. Riddles, jokes, etc. don't make for quality discussions which is why you are asked in the discussion guidelines not to post them.
I don't see anything wrong with the discussion to which you provided the link. The length of the responses for a discussion on flowers could vary depending on the gardening expertise of the person responding. Again though, I suggest placing less focus on the length and more focus on the quality of the response.

I wouldn't think that there would be a limit. I try to write enough to get my opinion and/or point across.

The longer your response the better. I believe one line or two liners will not earn for your any amount. It is discouraged. I myself would want to respond as long as I could so that I could fully express my ideas about the issue. There are topics that could be answered by one liner only but it is better to expound the response and that will do you and your readers more favor.

Hi allknowing , I would think that the length and relevance does matter while posting a response.Every time you are answering a discussion you have an advice on your left hand side Please be as descriptive as possible, which means that longer answers are expected.I have seen some of the answers given are very short and not even contributory...

Oh, and if you are starting a discussion, try to search whether it has been post before or not. Because repeating the same thing can lead to discussion being delete. But replying in a very old topic might not receive any feedback. Normally I will not bother reply to any topic that last comment is more than 1 week old. And try not to post any topic that require short answer, try something that can generate more feedback. And always go back to the discussion that you have open/reply and see what you can add on top of it, again discussion require interaction from both side, not just one.

I don't know about how many lines we have to write. But I try to line at least four lines what ever the discussion is.Don't know about eligible conditions for payment.Just try to give a good response.Even a small post contains 50 words.Just try to be as descriptive as possible.I think You type some 100 words then the response earns double the amount.

Just to be save make a four liner.
But see to it that it make sense.
Even if you answer a thousand words telenovela if it does not make sense then it no use. The most important thing is that you can answer the topic honestly and with sense. Else your response is just garbage.

It doesn't help to make a poem of it, Bulastika. Four lines (or whatever you will) should be four full lines: it's no use pressing Return after each short statement!
What really counts, however, is not how many lines or words (or how much you can make it by padding it out) but whether what you say is of good quality. If it is (and that is decided by a very sophisticated algorithm which takes many things into account, including the Discussion Rating System), then you will be rewarded accordingly.

Hello! i think my lot is paying us for the quality of matter we post instead of quantity. I have seen that sometimes i am paid much for less responses and sometimes paid less for even more responses all matters is quality of your content that how relevant it is to subject and how it contribute for the discussion where you are responding. So try to post quality content and you will be paid better.

Difficult question , but as i see mowst of users gave you allredy the answer that the lenght is not that important in an answer . If you can answer on a question using just a few words and this gives the full answer to the question than it's been counted as a valid response and will by cedited.

Hi Dear Friend,
My dear I Don't think Mylot Force on any type of specific length of discussion, but its true that Mylot judge your content with its quality... So the More informative content you post the more you get. and Further the qualitative content also gather a lot of response. So Go for it.
Keep Smiling and Happy myLotting...

There is no set amount, just as long as it is quality, as that is what mylot wants. I try to make mine as long as I can, but I don't count the words nor do I count the lines. I just post my opinions and not worry about how many words it has. I usually post quality anyway, so that is what it takes to earn in here. Also, all posts including responses should be descriptive and have substnce. If they aren't quality, and aren't descriptive nor have substance, then users won't earn for them, at least not much anyway. I hope that this has helped. Good luck to you and happy mylotting.

I don't know about the others, but for me, if I find a discussion topic worthy of comment, I would contribute my 2 cents' worth of opinion. However, I won't simply write just for the sake of writing. Comments like, "I agree with you and have a nice day", or even "Thanks for your comments." will never appear under my name.

I think the earning has something to do with the words you write on mylot, because the mylot will not pay something nonsense. Someone types just few words in order to earn money from his response. I think it is not helpful for the one who posts a discussion. So here, just give a response to the topics which arose your interest. Don't care so much about how many words you type. You will enjoy yourself here!
