MANILA, Philippines - A father of 3 lost his life after he refused to give his Nokia 3210 cell phone to thieves in San Pablo, Laguna, police said Monday.
Police Superintendent Raul Bargamento, San Pablo police chief, said victim Michael Clarianes, 27, was resting with a friend near Sampalok Lake when three cellphone thieves approached them and declared a holdup.
He said Clarianes was stabbed 13 times after he tried to fight off the thieves. His friend escaped the incident and alerted police.
The three suspects were later arrested but denied the crime.
Clarianes left behind a wife and three children.

OMG I can't believe it!! THREE suspects will kill one's life over a 3210 phone?? Is Philippines really that poor??? :( What do you think?? What's worse is that this situation is seemingly "normal" to us.. How do you think can we, as a country, solve this problem??

My heart breaks

I don't believe everybody is desperate here in the Philippines.. probably it's just that they aren't taught well about the moral consequences of their actions.. education is very important especially in these cases!! it's not only about poverty.. i believe it's also because of lack of education..

Years ago I even heard a news also in ABS-CBN that a guy kill his wife because of glass of water. Senseless is it not?
Lots of people just loss the value of life.
Its not because of poverty but because that person just simply don't care.

Oh my! That's a total beastly act! Why 13 times? What did the man ever do to deserve that from the thieves? That's really so sad.. nothing is so safe anymore. Even cellphones, which are ours, if the thieves want it, they want it. This just makes me so angry. I think this can happen anywhere and everywhere. This thieving problem is really getting nowhere, there needs to be a stricter rule. But then again, with a stricter rule, there will still be people whom want to do things like that. I feel sad for the victim's family totally.

hello cecille,
This is really sad and alarming.
Life wasted for nothing...it's not the mobile brand that matters in this issue..it is how dangerous our country now basing this situation.
Leaving a wife and 3 kids..let's hope those criminals will be punished or,their conscience won't give them peace.
Really sad news

Sad news indeed.. very alarming.. :(
I hope authorities will do something about it!! It bugs me personally.. now my fears are getting bigger because of what's happening around us.. But I have faith in God.. that He will bless the Philippines.. I still hold on to that hope.. though it may seem impossible :(
