There are many ideas that arose before that the island of Mindanao, should separate from the Philippines. There are many reason behind this, and one is that Mindanao was said to have been set aside, in terms of structural and economic development as well as peace development as compared to the entire archipelago. To all the Filipino lotters out there, do you believe that it is righteous for us who live in Mindanao to separate from the Republic of the Philippines and form another nation? What do you think from it?

It's really not a good idea. First and foremost we are all interconnected from each other despite the difference in religion and belief. We have the same ancestors and we all have experienced slavery and colonization. We are not different from one another so why is there a need to separate at all

people from Luzon are arrogant and racist, they look down the south the visayan and mindanaoan they treat southern people as lowclass and naughty. the capital city manila is just grabbing tax, natural resources and denied my country Mindanao with the economy because of opportunist Luzon, they are always the first to progress because of that!! and we are not filipino, visayan and mindanaoan just called filipino because we are still part of philippines actually we are not came from the same ethnic group!! #separatemindanao! #visminarenotfilipino!

As an ethnic Visayan myself whose parents cultures and homelands have been always put aside by the Central Government, I think the peoples of Mindanao have the full right to decide for their future that is to separate from the Philippines as an independent country. Many political scientists today acknowledge the continuous trend of counties breaking away or dissolving specifically in Africa beause of many economic, ethnic and historical complications that may result in their repective countries today outweighing the so-called "benefits" of "strength in unity" which many here try to achieve. They also know this would continue because ethnic-based and localized self-determination are the best means for a state to fulfill its purpose in delivering peace, security and development to its people. For sure many Filipinos including those from the peripheries of the center would find this proposition ridiculous if not outrageous (sprinkle some of the poorly-justified "crab mentality" and "regionalism" argument they always dish out) sincthe hey've all been immersed in and brainwashed by the glitters of twisted history and destructive nationalism philosophy being propagandized by the government since independence of this state.

I came from Mindanao particularly Surigao del sur and currently living here in Davao City. No, it's ridiculous to separate Mindanao from the Philippines, though we have so many natural resources, this is not enough to sustain everything we need to live in an independent nation. We have a very chaotic peace and order here, and we are afraid if Mindanao would go independent this will become worst, the insurgencies are terrifying and I doubt it if we can achieve peace if we will go independent. Gosh I hope politicians won't entertain that kind of thought, it is simply inconceivable.

I dont think Mindanao will ever get separated from the country anytime soon. Even if Mindanao disunite their way of living would still be the same. If the region becomes another country what would be its capital? Should they remove all the tv companies of Luzon? I find it impossible to happen. So what will the Philippines become then? I'm from Luzon but its up to the people of Mindanao if ever they wish to separate from the rest of us. Whatever you wish, we grant.

i believe that the people should have self-determination. people of mindanao should have the right to determine their own status and future. however, the philippines has been conceived with mindanao as part and parcel of it. the recent history which matters most to mindanaons is tied with the history of the philippines. but the history of mindanao predates the history of the philippines. so i am amendable to put the fate of the island to the people.

Sure. Why not? Then, perhaps the Philippines would have a greater measure of peace. Plus, wouldn't it be fun to get a passport just to get to a place where you once could enter and leave as you please? Moreover, I am now living in the Visayas but I was born in Iligan City, in Mindanao. Well, if Mindanao becomes a new country, I would become a foreigner , wouldn't that be cool?

hi varron! Never. What I'm trying to say is, we are one nation and we cannot call "Philippines" without Mindanao as part of it. It is not that Luzon and Visayas can't stand alone, it is more of idealism and nationalism for goodness sake. Mindanao was a major part of development in our country (back then on the early times), maybe instead of abandoning it why not heal its wounds. We all know that Mindanao has been a nest for some terrorist but there are places in that region that you can be proud of. Our government should give more opportunity on that part of our country. Let's just open our eyes and see what Mindanao really needs. Happy Lotting!

i AGREE to that. i am amendable to the separation for Mindanao from the Manila. reason? Mindanao is noted to have rich in agricultural resources, it was and still in undeveloped today. what mindnao has in terms of taxes and collections are sent to manila, what mindanao get in return for fund is only a portion of what mindanao sent. Mindanao can stand on it's own. It can grow into a productive state when given a chance. added to that, if Minadao will separate, i think people employed as local officials can be lessened and corruption i think can be lessened aslo. again, i agree to the separation of Mindanao...

I heard about this speculation, too. Is it the idea before was to put the Mindanao island under the jurisdiction of US? Only that there will be a leader in the Mindanao. I would like to example, Hawaii. Therefore, there's a probability that we can travel in the US freely, that will base upon their rules. If it's going to be like that then, I agree. And we should have the right to be called filipino. If Mindanao will be separated from the Philippines without the above condition , then I would say it's not righteous! lol

A big NO! That is not a sound idea to get separate in that way without a firm and generally accepted reason. What separate most part of Mindanao is Religion. But then, we are still the same. By blood, by speeches and even by look. C'mon, You can't have a distinction from yourself alone as a Tausug or Sulo native. Not when you heard me telling you that " Kaibigan kita".
