would you ever consider hurting someone to get what you want?

there was this instance when my best friend liked a guy, who liked her close friend. her close friend claims WITH CONVICTION that she doesn't like the guy that my best friend likes, but ends up dating him anyway.
sometimes we do selfish things. sometimes to the extent of hurting someone just to make ourselves feel inferior.
is it something that we want to do deep down inside, or at the back of our minds? or is it something that we've really intended to do because we really wanted to feel inferior, just for kicks? what is the glory in it? i'd like to know...

hi hanna
the reason why your best friend close friend still dated him is because even though she doesn't like that guy, hes dating him to soften any roughness since most guys do not take rejection lightly. in other words, the close friend of your friend simply wanted to enlighten the guy instead of leaving him high and dry. you have to take into consideration the outcome of that girl not dating him and if it is harsh, that made her date him as the only solution.

well they broke up eventually, after a month. and the close friend was left friendless because she ditched my best friend for the guy she claimed--with conviction--that she did not like.
the guy looks arrogant but harmless, none the less. he's not the type that kills when rejected, or so it seems. and the girl flirted with him behind her back. _ but oh well. i just wondered if inferiority complex is a conscious or a subconscious choice.
thanks for sharing your thoughts anyway. :)
