Upgrade or new?

Australia

My pc is 6 months old, but by modern terms it was out of date the day I bought it. I want to upgrade hard drive space, and ram. When i look at new pc's if I don't buy one with a monitor, using the one I have, its almost the same price as an upgrade. I get warranty on a whole machine, as I do with parts. Whats the best idea here?

what are the spec's?? i would recommend a upgrade...going for another PC would cost you a lot. if you are going for upgrade you are putting the pc's warranty in jeopardy. nevertheless what possibly can happen to your new pc withing 2-3 years anyway. bottom line go for the upgrade!!! if it was a old pc an upgrade would have been a problem because of hardware compatibilities, but you should have no problem whatsoever.go for it!! dont forget to post your specs ...i like hearing from people :)

AMD Athon 64x2 Dual core 5000+ @ 2.61 GHZ 2GB RAM Gforce 9500GT Pioneer dvd-rw DVR-216 ST325041 240GB hdd 21"WS screen Was told the ram could be doubled or more, which would help as I edit video's and they seem slow to process. Hdd just isn't big enough to store partial video's on for editing.

ok...im not a pro at this but i think only RAM wont do any good ...go for the quad processor (intel dual core quad).and hdd obviously anything you can get. i have 320 gb (not enough for movies )i installed hard drive of my old comp. i think processing speed has lot to do with the processor(CPU) rather than just RAM not sure thou...ask any local professionals. *IMPORTANT* if you change processor you MUST change the motherboard, that means you are about to change ram, hdd, processor, mother board. processor and motherboard make most of the cost of the basic PC better reconsider your options!!! pls reply!!!

That Pc is not very out dated as you call it. The HDD I would upgrade to at least a 1TB HDD that will definately last your for sometime. Check your Motherboard and see if you have extra RAM slots available. Also Check on the net if you Motherboard can handle a better Processor. If that is the case there is no need to buy a whole no PC. Save your money where you can

First you must canvass for a brand new pc to check for your badget. And choose a unit that met the specification that you wanted. Then compare it with upgrading cost. If the different is so minimal i rather choose to buy a new one than upgrading because at least its all brand new even the mouse.

How well was your PC running before you realized that you needed to upgrade memory? That should help you decide a bit more effectivly. However, if you want my honest opinion. Warenity on an entire machine tops the warenity on indivual parts. warenties on parts only cover those parts, but don't cover what might happen if something else is gone out on it. Then where you be? Depending on the part, the price can very and eventually you end up putting more money into repairing the system then you would replacing it. With this in mind, What do you think now?

an option would be to sell your pc instead of going for an upgrade of ram, hd, et cetera... then go for the quad core or the newly released i3 core which is far more better for editing videos, photos and other multitasking softwares you have. More memory means more space for the processor to do its job, so i go for 6 to 8 gb of memory... hd - take the 1 tb. and for the video card, pcie is the most efficient i think.
