Have you ever lost something on a plane? I have a couple of times and was never able to retrieve the item. If this happens to you in the future there are a few steps you can take to increase your chances of getting back your lost goods. If you realize you have left something on the plane and have not left the airport yet, you can rush back to the gate and see if the plane is still there. If you have already left the airport before you discover your loss, then the best thing to do is to go back to the airport and tell your problem to the airlines baggage department. The next best thing is to find the number of the airlines and give them a call and have them direct you to the proper authorities. Of course, the best way not to lose anything is prevention. So, before you leave the plane check the floor around your seat, the overhead compartment, and the pocket in the seat in front of you. These are the most common places people leave their belongings.

I try to watch my belonging when I am on the plane. I think I left few times items like books or magazines. I wish someone was able to read and have good time. I wouldn't go back to airport as long as my left items are small.

Your right about not going back for small items like magazines. I would go back for an interesting book, though. I think prevention is the best way not lose something, but that is not always possible.

The most common things people can leave on the plane they have just been on are reading glasses, cameras and hand held games. I know that I have left behind some things on a train. I phoned the train company and got my things back at one of the London stations. Before I get off a plane I check the seat around me. I try to make sure that I have got everything. I would ask the person at the information desk in the airport what to do if I had dropped something of mine on the plane. If I didn't get the item back I would phone the airline.

Thanks for adding your experiences to this discussion. Do you think that there is a higher chance of success of retrieving lost items on a train or plane? Hey, that would be another good discussion to start in the travel section. What do you think?
